If you read the story, the officer is apologetic, and only issues the fine to cover himself.
He knows that the fine will get overturned and that the guy will probably be able to claim thousands in compensation.
So I wouldn't worry about it. |

True story. The guy with the damaged foot says he's not going to pay the fine for "damaging" the police car and sue the Police force concerned. I hope he succeeds and gets lots of pennies and an apology. |

I think the standard of UK police driving should be improved, I live in leicestershire and a couple of years ago spotted a police car firmly embedded in a shop window |

Of course they can,
what are you doing walking on the pavement in the first place
its much safer in the road. |

Anyone can be accused of anything, making it stick in court is a whole other matter. |

Well, what a well balanced and informed selection of answers!!!
Yes of course, all criminals with a vehicle should be allowed to get away with any crime. I am sure nothing would ever go wrong with this theory and with absolutely no fear of repercussion 'joy riding' drive-offs and 'getaways' are sure to come to a stop. On top of that any major incident response times should plummet even further which I'm sure will make you all very happy!
What an incredibly naive view.
In regards to the incident. If this is the case it is ridiculous if it happened as it says, I agree, but just last week I know of an individual kicking a Police car as it travelled through a city center, attempting to protect the public. She damaged the vehicle and was prosecuted as would be the case with any vehicle. She had to have a doctor called out in the middle of the night at god knows what expense.
Perhaps there is more to this than meets the eye! |

Ohmy goodness! I can't belive thats true that is terrible! what is the world coming to! Its one thing that we can't feel completely safe on the pavement but to get hit and then prosecuted that just takes the mick!!!! |

Naughty but why cant i possabley miss a child who runs out in front of me when im doing 28 and yet we allow maniacs to drive at horrendous speeds who simply say there trained for it.My thoughts are that children are more inquisitive about a siren than old me.An innocent expectant mother was hit in a car chase and lost her 8 month old baby Verdict the chase was legit so tough She wasnt being chased and it wasnt the stolen car that hit her Compensation i think the officer got some |

Anybody that mounts the pavement can basically do whatever they want in my opinion. |

The report in my paper states that the officer ran over his foot, took him to hospital, in the police car, and waited 3 hours to check he was ok. Then booked him for damaging a police vehicle, just to cover himself.
The South Wales police are investigating, pity they don`t try and catch a few criminals. |

Police can do anything. They can make up laws right there on the spot. |

Let's hope that he prosecutes the Police and gets compensation. We live in a twisted weird world don't we? |

Amazing. But this might make you wonder as well: About a year ago we had a problem in our estate with a lad belting up and down the main path at about 30mph through the estate on a souped-up motorised micro-scooter (the kind you stand on). Plenty of little kids (under-5's) play along that path so, being concerned for their safety we gave a quick call (not a 999) to Hampshire Constabulary. We were told that the road does not end at the kerb! Technically, the path through the estate can be classed as a part of the road that runs along the top of the estate and is separated by a grassed area about thirty feet wide.
So where does this leave pedestrians I wonder. |

I often see police cars go up on the pavement, and they dont care, even though it is illegal. I also see them use sirens for personal use, and once I got picked up for walking on the grass next to an A road. I wasnt even very close to the road, and they just said i shouldnt be walking there, so they took me backa few miles so I had to begin my walk again. |

Sarcasm alert.....
Of course they can. Police can do anything they like. And to have an easy life they go after the innocent people who wont give them trouble to keep their crime figures up.
Why should they risk their necks for us? We a only pay thier wages. We expect way too much from them. |

Tut, tut Stand, having another go at the Police, but of course the whole matter is hilarious and beggars belief. Each account you read is different. Perhaps the offending Officer was counting sheep, well it was Wales!!!. |
