Dismissed charges Texas?

I was recently let go from my job so I am looking for another job.
I applied for a job recently that told me something on my record prevented their hiring of me. In the past, I had a couple of hot checks and also was charged with possession of marijuana. All of these were dismissed. A year ago I pull a background report that showed the charges as dismissed.
Should I list these regardless. I'm confused or did the employer just give me a reason not to hire me?

Hello Marty. If the application asks about convictions, then you are perfectly correct in answering "no". If they ask about arrests, then you list any and all arrests. As far as being turned down, legally they cannot deny employment based on any dismissed charges. You can press the issue legally, but they will simply give another reason ( such as not being qualified or finding another person who was MORE qualified).
