you could fail the entry test if you don't have 20/20 eyesight |

Why is it discriminatory when there's a requirement for police to be in great shape all round? Thats like saying its discrimniatory to not hire someone in a wheelchair to to a lifting job that they couldn't do.
On the other side though, I don't see why your sight would be a problem, if you wear glasses and/or lenses, as these would rectify whatever problem. It may just be they will expect you to make sure your glasses/lenses are up to date, as your sight may detiriorate over time. |

Poor eyesight may fail you when attempting to join the police in UK. If you are unable to see people and objects properly at a reasonable distance without glasses, then the police recruiters will probably reject you. Even though you have taken what you think is an eye test for police entry, it was not taken by the recruiters, so it may just not be valid. You should go for an interview and let them test you in their own way. There are lots of desk jobs working for the police as a civilian - have you thought about these? |

If you can't see well enough to do the job, why is it discriminatory??? How are you going to give dialogue on a car chase if you can't read the vehicle regs? How are you going to spot a knife in someone's hand if they are a long distance away? come on, get real! |

It doesn't have to be perfect. I have seen lots of policemen wearing glasses. |

Dont be silly lol. I know plenty of cops that turn a blind eye if you pay them enough hehehehehehehehe. no seriously the rule is you have to have 20 20 vision with normal eye glasses on. lots of policemen wear eye glasses and contact lenses. Hers the official requirments and im sorry to say if your optician told you that you do not come up to scratch then im afraid thats that. hers the link from police website. http://www.policeuk.com/downloads/eyesight.pdf |

Yes, I think it is madatory for an applicant or recruit or volunteer to have a perfect 20/20 vision or just good eyesight to join the uk police force... |

Joining the police force and a matter of health issues is very important part of the process. It pays to have 20/20 vision as your sight is important to details you give when giving evidence in a court of law. If the defence council discovered you had problems with your eyesight they would have reason to doubt your credibility. |

Yes.Applicants will have their eyesight tested at the medical assessment stage. You may be asked to go to an optician to have your eyes tested and the eyesight form filled in. Failure to pass this test will lead to rejection.Sorry. |

Reasonably good vision is obviously necessary. You should also definitely be able to spell 'definitely' and 'pretty'. To join the traffic cops ,one further condition...your parents must NOT be married. |

You've been supplied with the standards for unaided vision and you may not meet them. Even if you do, remember that the medical conditions (unless you're female or of ethnic origin) are pretty strict and apt to be applied strictly in the absence of any special reason for taking a relaxed interpretation.
You're going to have to brush up your English, though. Make sure that your application form is completed in correct spelling and syntax. |

Sorry but the answer is no. For any of the forces, armed or unarmed you have to have good vision. |
