Do I tell the police about suspect drug dealing?
|
I was doing the usual security checks for the night, windows, etc, (just before I go to bed) and I noticed a dark car parked outside my house (this is the 2nd time I've seen it). On this occasion only, however, I decided to stand and see how long he was planning on parking there. Within seconds, another car came alongside and the driver got out, rushed to this car parked outside my driveway and took a white packet from him and drove off! Should I report this to the police? Additional Details I have recently been burgled.

Hmmmm, it's dark outside, and you actually see the transfer of a white packet!!! If in fact you saw him take a "white packet", did you also see the parked car receive money for the packet, usually drug dealers don't give away drugs!!! It was probobly just a phone no. or address or something innocent. HOwever, I am all for reporting drug deals in neighborhoods or anywhere for that matter, I really don't think this is what you witnessed. I agree with others that suggested you take down license plates numbers dates and times and report to proper authorities. |

Yes, it is better to take this safer route. Even if you are wrong, you will have done what is safest. |

I have always been a strong believer in the community being the best policing service. We live amongst these people, we may even know these people, but regardless, we have an obligation to protect our neighbors. If you have noticed anything suspicious, definately report it to the authorities, as these people, if guilty, could one day be in harms way of someone you love. |

I would wait to see if he comes again, take notes of the times and dates that you have been suspicious and if it continues, definitely call the police. You can do it anonymously if you prefer - but whatever you do, you don't want drug-dealing scum on your doorstep. |

the only thing required for evil to prevail in this world is for enough good people to do nothing...call the cops! |

YES, don't wait around, do it anonymously if you wish, but please for the sake of our kids speak out now. |

Yes. If possible, get the license plate on the vehicle or vehicles and report the incident to the local drug task force. Don't be obvious about doing it, and keep it to yourself. |

Yes! If you see something, say something! Call the police, tell them the activity you see. Be sure to get a description of the vehicle/s involved, including make, model, and license plate number. This goes for all suspicious activity you see, anywhere you are.
Let police handle problems like that. Its best not to confront elements like those by yourself. |

I would ask if your department has a narcotics division first and talk with them.
You can also try to get the Federal Agencies involved in this.
ask them if you can put a camera on your yard. Or ask your local narcotic officers what laws you cant cross as a citizen. Remember the police have their hands tied by privacy ;aws more than us citizens.
Start a neighborhood watch. Bring food over to neighbors and talk to them about crime in your neighborhood. Maybe they will help you. |

Absolutely you have no idea how many lives you will have spared but on the other hand turning your cheek and deep prayers to God for he knows best the dealers have cops at there feet just be careful especially if you have kids I'd reccommend joining your neighborhood CAPS its a place where neighborhood common folks get together to better their community or tell someone that is involved it works its also a good idea to tell the police anonymously to please patrol your street you feel unsafe then it won't fall upon you.
Cops care 2 but seldom take the common folk seriously tell them you have seen alot and heard some activity. Tell them as well you have alot of elderly and children that are being affected in your community
great question God Bless be Safe
Chicago is just as unpleasant just keep on praying Chica |

I would if you see him again but maybe ring the none emergency number first and tell them what you have seen, if you have to ring back then it's all on record.
These people are the scum of the earth and deserve all they get and your instincts sound bang on nail to be honest. Good luck and stay safe, shop him too, it's the right thing to do, he could selling to kids after all. |

Doesn't sound like they were hurting anyone. Let the police worry about real crimes. |

Of course it could have nothing to do with drugs, maybe your over reacting, because you've been burgled. Maybe it better to wait a while and if it happens on a regular basis, then that would be the time to contact the police, although they have no where to lock them up at the moment,so may well be a complete waste of time !! |

It doesn't sound as if you have been harmed so why take the risk of exposing these junkies and possibly get hurt?
I would not suggest standing in the window staring at them if they can see you at all. Drug dealers are business men, and have alot of money and or drugs on them at one time. Along with that he usually has a gun to protect his interests, freedom being one of them, and won't take to kindly to someone jotting down on a piece of paper in front of a window.
Why do I know so much? I live in a very junkie dominated population and these "business men" are my neighbors. Through my silence, they seem to almost trust me and give me the skinny on the inside workings of there trade. I won't ever open my mouth and don't think I have anything to worry about.
That being said, if you fear your safety, report it. If you think these folks in the car are just bloaks being run around by some drug dealer just waiting on there fix, don't report it . I know these boys do that. They will tell there customer to go to this street, after an hour of them waiting, they will call and tell them to go to a differnt location. This can go on as long as the junkie allows, or when the dealer actually feels like getting off his lazy @ss to go meet him and give him the poison he seeks. And most junkies are just that, sick without it and will wait all day.
Get a big dog, a gun, the best of locks for your doors, and windows. Get a neighborhood watch sign in your front yard. Once you feel confident you are equipped, I would turn my outside light on. All parties involved in this trade are paranoid and may not want to meet by your neck of the woods anymore. They will find a new street hopefully |

THINK HOW YOU WOULD FEEL IF YOU HADN'T CALLED THE POLICE AND......
...... some child dies of a drug overdose from the drugs its parent had.
....... someone you love is injured or even killed by a maniac crazed and out of his/her skull on drugs.
........ your child/grandchild gets tempted to start drugs and ruins their life.
HOW WOULD YOU FEEL IF YOU CALLED THE POLICE AND...?
..... this was a mistake and the person isn't selling drugs but it is something completely innocent.
..... the drugs are actually drugs collected from a pharmacist, for the other person who, for whatever reason, couldn't collect them.
..... it was simply paper with a telephone number of someone the second guy was desperate to contact.
How would you feel?
For the first examples, you'd feel bad because YOU could have stopped it!
For the second, you'd feel bad because YOU had them investigated.
Which would you prefer?
A better area to live~?
An area where the drug barons know they can sell in safety~?
The choice is yours!
JUST SAY NO TO ALL DRUGS!! |

Yes. You could be held responsible for aiding and abetting a criminal transaction otherwise. Just telephone the precinct or sheriff's department and report exactly what you "KNOW" happened. In other words, do not report a drug transaction...do report suspicious unauthorized activity near your home. Do not approach the vehicles or either driver. Do not allow them to observe you observing them. It could be dangerous for you and your family. Just call the law and have them send an investigator to your home or visit the precinct and tell them everything that you observed. Your wording in your question is good.
Be very careful, though, people who deal in drugs often do not have the same regard for human life as ordinary people do.
If you can remember the time and other specific data about the instances, they may be of assistance to the law enforcement officials. Who, What, When, Where, and Observations made or words exchanged...may be helpful.
The State Patrol in your area should also be notified of the events in case it is questioned later on. |

Sure if you feel like looking over your shoulder all the time, and another question is whether the cops in your area really give a crap.
Good luck. |

no. its an inevitable thing, drugs are, and as opposed to their use as i am, its inevitable. The economy of it is so that you may get rid of one person, but 3 more are standing in line to take his place.
drugs are a business. people in it dont generally want to do anything outside of make money, like a business. When you start messing with their business, it can get dangerous for you. i suggest you just go on with your life. its something you really shouldnt involve yourself in. at most, give them an anonymous tip, and dont try to be a hero. |
|

Wtf?
|
Dont u think the drug d would know who called the cops on them? people just want money they throw in fake reports all the time. its a realy bad desicion to rat out a drug dealer,Def if hes big he wont be gone for long and he would know who rated him out... you older generation need to stop being so stingy and look at the real world. |
