I think that goes without saying.

To kill is so much easier with a gun.

Uni students who lose it can't wipe out a dozen people in a few minutes if they don't have a gun.

They are a device designed with one purpose and one purpose alone.......to kill.

How can anyone justify owning such a device?

Oddly enough every US state with the STRICTEST gun laws has the HIGHEST violent gun crime,

Considering that actual murderers don't give a rats behind about ownership rules and obtain theirs illegally, no. However, if one were to come in contact with a law abiding gun owner, chances are there would be one less murder of an innocent person.

No. You can kill with anything.Every home has at least one knife in it and there are relativly few stabbings.

The truth
Yes, and matches cause arson.

In the hands of law abiding citizens, a legal gun does the exact opposite. I reduces the risks. Want proof? just look at the crime rates of ANY city within the US that allows their law abiding citizens to own or carry concealed & cities of equal population that have gun bans in place. You will see, in black & white, that the cities that allow law abiding citizens guns have fewer crimes.

An American friend of mine made a great point ... and while it MIGHT sound cliche'

Guns really don't kill people, People kill people......

Canada apparently has as many gun-owners IF NOT MORE per capita than the USA...... yet they do not have the crime ..

so it is NOT the actual gun or gun control or whatever that is the problem.. It is not the weapon that the person carries that is the problem .. IT IS THE ATTITUDE....
My American friend says that if it wasn't the gun these people would find other ways to harm and kill others......

the gun just makes it that bit easier .. to USE THAT ATTITUDE

I am glad though that I live in a nation where gun-ownership isn't considered THAT important

EDIT: lasvegas that's B.S completely and utterly .. YAWN.
we are NOT disarmed .. get your facts right.. and the way to do that is to go to a NON-BIASED site .. or come and live in the country like I do ...

Now, you're really getting weird, Gottbaum. You hate Americans. Why would you care if any of us were dying?

No, do you have any idea how many guns are in the United States? It is not about to change and the murder rate may (and has in the past) gone down when a citizen is able to defend themselves.
There will always be people who should not posses guns. Of course there are people that should not drive. I don't want to give up my car because someone else can't use theirs properly.

To answer this, one needs only look at Australia since her citizenry has been disarmed;

Though lawmakers responsible for passing the ban promised a safer country, the nation's crime statistics tell a different story:

* Countrywide, homicides are up 3.2 percent;

* Assaults are up 8.6 percent;

* Amazingly, armed robberies have climbed nearly 45 percent;

* In the Australian state of Victoria, gun homicides have climbed 300 percent;

* In the 25 years before the gun bans, crime in Australia had been dropping steadily;

* There has been a reported "dramatic increase" in home burglaries and assaults on the elderly.

Jenny; please point me to one of these unbiased sites. I know many Aussies, and trust me, I would LOVE to spend some time there.

No, the laws just makes it more likely that a law abiding citizen defending himself, family and property will be charged.
