Do You Think 3 Years Is An Adequate Sentence For Killing A Young Girl?
|
Ex PC John Dougal was jailed for 3 years today by Newcastle Crown Court for killing 16 year old Hayley Adamson. He reached speeds of 94 mph with no lights, or sirens going on his Police car. Personally I think 3 years is an insult to Hayley and her family, especially when he will be out in just over a year.

I think this hooligan should have been made an example of and given 10 year and a lifetime ban,the idiot clearly should never have been at wheel!
He got 3 years for killing a lovely young girl on her way to study.,The car hit her and she was flung 60feet in the air,To Crown matters some of the locals got together to protest and some were arrested!!
What about her 12 yr old friend who witnessed this thug, how ill that affect the little girl?
Tell you what I know,he'll get half remission automatically,18 month, and there is also a scheme in prison for the likes of him were he will be back (tagged)in the community probably before Christmas!Isn't Britain a lovely place. If she was my daughter he killed he himself would hide for the rest of his life because id kill him like he did that girl! |

Well a muslim who ran over a nine year old girl, and left her to die by the side of the road got three months!!.....our legal system is a f*cking joke.....almost as bigger joke as the labour party. But, i suppose, the British people get the sh*t they are prepared to put up with......((until its their daughter of course)) |

In the context of the tragic accident I think 3 years is slightly lenient. In the context that drink drivers, car thieves and people that drive with no licence, insurance, tax or test, that kill people tend not to receive as long, then it is excessive. 5 years as we stand is the maximum he could have got. He was a policeman that made a fatal error doing his job, catching up to a car he was told was stolen. Lessons should be learnt rather than a lesson made of a public servant. All anti-police can give me the thumbs down. |

The maximum sentence is 5 years.
Nobody ever gets the maximum, and this is the most that anyone gets.
Non-police divers are rarely sentenced to prison.
Police drivers are usually sentenced to prison for something like this.
But police bashing is fun, isn't it? |

Yes and No, for various reasons. Such as this was an accident, he shouldn't have been going at that speed but she shouldn't have been stumbling around a main round pissed out of her mind.
Besides there have been far worse cases, where people have intentionally killed in cold blood and gotten something like 5 years. The whole damn system is a joke. |

All sentencing is a joke! When hanging was abolished we were promised life would mean life but look at it now. This is due to successive governments lying.
Last year a paedophile got 18 years, his sentence is automatically halved to 9. As he pleaded guilty another third is wiped off so he is actually doing 6. Take his remand time off and he is doing less than 5.
We must remember these things when the would-be politicians come around next year asking for our vote. Is it any wonder the BNP are becoming popular? Much of this is due to their stance on crime and punishment. |

Yes I agree with you he should have got a lot longer sentence. |

The sentence was appropriate according to the code; Dougal was charged for dangerous driving, not for premeditated murder. The officer also expressed remorse and that counts on his favor.
Anyway I think the code should be more severe on drivers (police or not) that decide to ignore common sense.
But don't forget forgetting the armed police team that shot and killed the unarmed Brazilian guy in the train for "looking arab" some years ago (he got over 10 shots to the head). They got no time at all. And I never heard of them apologizing to anyone. |

Hi Joan, yes it's too lenient, and if nothing else it highlights that police officers simply must be trained in how to drive at high speeds, not just the traffic division, but all officers.
They are our servants, not our masters and we need to get out of this 'the police are untouchable' culture, permeated i might add by the police themselves. |

he should be jailed for much longer..... but he's being protected by a thing all lawyers hate... the big.. blue.. wall. |

i think people should get a lot longer sentences than they do i know someone who got 30 year for murdering someone and he was 20 when he did it so when he get out he will still have plenty of life left. its totally not fair to the victims family and friends |

I've seen people given far less than what John Dougal got for causing death by dangerous driving.
Personally I think the sentences for this offence are far too lenient. That's for everyone and not just John Dougal. |

ur prob right but wat was the details behind him speeding like that pls go futher indepth |

The family should appeal, that officer like many of his fellow officers abused his position and the trust put in him, this wasn't the first time he had done these speeds, why should the law insist on tachographs in lorries so the police can prosecute professional drivers for breaking the laws, the police should also have tacho's then they can be made accountable for their misdeeds, if there not in pursuit they should stick to the law their supposed to enforce.
I think 3 years is a insult but then the whole legal system is an insult when Judges can come out with comments like " the truth is no defence" when the rich and famous are not shop lifters they are ill, their as never been a larger divide in the them and us system we now have, the have and the have nots, my sympathies go out for the family of the girl who was murdered by the very people put their to protect her. |

I think everyone will agree by now, that our legal system and the Judges that enforce the sentencing are rapidly becoming a joke.
Just to take this particular case, here was what I believe to have been a trained officer in advance driving, behaving like a first class prat and causing the death of a young person with out any excuse what so ever.
That alone requires a very long sentence indeed.
The question one has to ask is, what the hell was the Judge thinking of when passing this sentence (holiday)
Lets get rid of these plonkers who do not understand ordinary life and the suffering that is caused by stupid behaviour like in this case. |

No, I believe that if anyone takes a life of another person should forfeit theirs. |

what was she doing? was she walking around in the street? if it was an accident or not he should have gotten 20-life. Its just because hes a cop. |

people who take a life should have theirs taken, either by death sentence or life imprisonment (when i say life i mean life not 15 years which is a current life sentence) |
