Do any of you think the police lie when filling out their reports and on the witness stand in court ?

No, I do not "think" I personally KNOW this to be true, due to my own trumped up charges from a lying Police Officer. His report was full of lies.

That is why the State immediately dropped the original complaint to a lesser charge, therefore wanting me to plea-bargain. They also know !

I adamantly have refused to plea bargain to a crime I have not committed, and this has made the State furious at me.

Ask any Attorney, and they will tell you as mind did-Police lie all the time!!

Why else do we have acess to sites as policeabuse.org-copwatch.com and so on?

You must do your own research and fight back. . .

While all are human, so that means some will, but most don't. Often remember that on thier report, normally they merely write down what they see, or hear people say, and often this is after the fact and they don't aways remember things the same. We did a practice in school, had a person read a statement to us, we were to write a report from the statement given us. there were 40 people in class and basicly 40 differrnt versions of the story read to us.

Also on the stand they are talking about a case from months or even a year or two in the past,

Sorry troll-copycat id. You aren't worth my badge and retirement to lie about on the stand or in a report.

No one is.

They're still people. The system is designed to guard against and discourage such things, but I'm certain it happens.

I dated a girl years ago who was a court reporter in Wisconsin. We were invited to a dinner party at the home of one of the district judges that she worked for. There had been a local city police officer that had been fired for planting a stolen bracelet on a robbery suspect. The conversation turned to this subject and the judge was asked how prevalent he thought this type of behavior was in the law enforcement community. He answered that it was rare, but when asked if he ever caught a police officer in a lie, he responded that most cops lie at some time or in some way. He explained that the system even had a name for it, Testilying.

Why on earth would they lie?
I'm sure that in their lives, truth is plenty stranger than fiction.
No, I don't think they lie on their reports or on the witness stand.

No. I recently had a member of my family.. my mother attacked, and nearly murdered on the street as she was walking home from work.
The "individual" responsible for this vicious attack was caught "in the act" by a police officer in my community after he attacked an 18 year old girl, only 10 minutes prior.

The police report, was outstanding.

The officers involved, performed with such "professionalism", it made me think twice.. about what they deal with each and every day.

If it were not for the officer who witnessed this brutal attack, and stopped it, my mother, (Age 70) would be dead.

I'm tired of the police being categorized as incompetent fools by the media. More often than not... It's the lawyers and the judicial system that are to blame.

He is facing life in prison, without the possibility of parole.
He is only 28 years old.

Thank God... because this could have been so much worse.

The answer is still.. NO.

But I realize, no one is perfect, just as you must know this.

By the way... my mother lives in "Silicon Valley"...
no where is safe.

Police are just like anyone else in any other occupation. You have the majority of them who are hard working honest people. Then you have a few bad eggs who spoil it for the good ones. I'm sure there are cops who lie. They screw it up for the rest who don't.

Police work is like any other occupation, they are just under a microscope when doing there work. How often do you do a double take at the teller at the bank to see that they are doing? I'll bet you check out what the cops doing when you see them out and about.

NotScrewed07
Of course they do. But most cops are honest.

No. I worked in law enforcement for 26 years; married to a police officer and the daughter of a police officer. The police officers that I had contact with, and there were many, all were honest, hard working men and women. I am sure that there are those that fudge their reports and do lie when on the stand, but I never ran into any of them. As with anything, there are good and bad in every walk of life. But when a police officer turns out to be bad, it destroys the publics trust. Being human, we do have a tendency to think that ALL police officers are bad and ALL lawyers are shysters, and ALL car salesmen are just trying to rip you off.

No, the officers are sworn to uphold the law and to tell the truth. There are people who lie in court, but they are not the ones who wear a badge. The officers have nothing to gain by lying, and have no reason to ever lie. Officers know that if they ever lie, they will be fired, among other punishments. An officers life is based on his word, his honor, his loyalty. The moment an officer lies his career and trust from others is gone. Remember as a police officer they have to trust each other with their lives, and no one will ever trust a liar. Also remember there are lawyers in a courtroom.... who is more apt to lie... oh no i'm sorry "represent the truth".

Some do...most, I think, don't.

x=x*+v*t+(1/2)at^2
Only if the officer is personally involved in the incidence. That is, if an police officer or family member of a police officer is in trouble the cop will lie. For example, I know of a cop who lied to keep his wife from getting a ticket in a traffic accident where she was clearly at fault.

As far as arresting other people, where the offier is not involved, I think they're usually pretty honest. If a cop catches a stranger shop lifting I don't think they'll lie to let the person go nor lie to make the crime seem worse than it was.

jpofgs_jp
Of course their humans they lie when they need to maybe they lie to get themselves or close family/freind from trouble they aren't perfect.

George
They all lie and when one lies the others backup the lie so it goes on and on. They are a brotherhood and they look out after each other. For every lie a cop gets caught in there's a hundred times he did not. I have travelled though out the world and have found the cops to be far worse then the criminals. Tijuana Mexico - Stopped for illegal turn (lie) gave cop what he really wanted $20.00 Seoul Korea - Stopped for speeding (lie) gave cop what he really wanted $10.00 Panama - Stopped and asked for passport gave cop what he really wanted $20.00 It goes on and on. They are worse in the U.S. as the whole system is created to steal on a much bigger scale.

I am currently fighting a case where the cop filled out his report, when my lawyer got the video the first fifteen minutes are suspiciously missing followed by him bold face lying to the grand jury to get an indictment. Luckily I hired a barracuda for a lawyer, if I had a public defender I'd be screwed. I am considering filing a suit against said piggy when this all blows over, lawyer thinks I would have a case due to his shoddy attempts to clean up sloppy work and the incredible harm he's done to me during the coarse of his duties. Also thinking about pushing the perjury issue, maybe he shouldn't be a pig anymore.

Fred
I've just come through a three-year odyssey fighting a traffic accident report filled with incorrect information. The reporting police officer was so irritated that I asked for a written report of the accident he held me responsible for the collision. It has taken me three years to finally have a judge quash the cop's outrageously incorrect repot. They do it because they believe they can.
