Do cell-phone users tend to think they are above the law?

I do think they believe they are and they have forgotten that a lot of states have enacted the hands free law. The law exempts you for emergencies, ie, the call from the emergency room, etc.. exempt are police, fire and emergency personnel performing in their official capacity. I have NO problem pulling someone over for a cell phone, as well as a seat belt and their kids unbuckled (yes folks, it happens alot more than you think!) in a safety seat. And imagine when we do pull them over, they DO NOT stop their conversations, but continue on, or ask us to hold on. Its especially annoying after you already get their info, and they call their dad or mom so you can "talk to them" or they are explaining to boyfriend/girlfriend/coworker/friend that they are late because some a**hole cop pulled them over for talking on their cell phone, and when asked that they hang up the phone so you can explain something to them, they continue their conversation while you stand there in the middle of oncoming traffic, and what could have been a simple written warning for them now has pissed us off into the $100.00 fine for their ignorance, which we all know is no excuse. So for all you hand held cell phone users.. HANG UP AND DRIVE!!!!

Something that began as a thing to have for emergencies has gotten out of hand. People have no consideration for others. On the road and everywhere in general. I really dont care to hear your conversations.

Yes when they are talking and driving. Its so dangerous and they might as well be drunk while driving because they are not alert their mind is elsewhere.

What law would that be? In general, no more than Yahoo Answers posters think they are above the 'Community Guidelines'.

I think some of them have delusions of grandeur and that they have a sense of entitlement and that they are so important that they just have to take this call......blah blah blah blah............They seem to think that they do not have to abide by the code of common courtesy and manners........

barrettins
Cell phone users don't think. If they did they would not talk on the cell phone while driving. They would not bring the cell to church, theatre, class or what ever to distrube other people. They just don't think about what they are doing.

I think they think they are.....I mean , come on...talking on your cell phone while driving is against the law, yet you see people doing it everyday, & most times the police don't do anything about it!

No...I think they just forget what they're doing at times because of the phone...

u should be following me going to work and coming home from work...........people are always on their cell phones, don't pay attention to what they are doing and it is crazy.......i guess also along those lines would be the stupid women with their rear view mirrors down putting on their make up...........that is also a hazard

Yes, we do, but we haven't actually declared ourselves such like George Bush in reference to the recent other ridiculous question.

If this question is "A Law"
And someone calls you on your cell phone and orders you to the E.R. for a family member or friend in need - and you're trying to get the details in the car while you're driving.... are you going to be thinking about this question? The law?
N.O.P.E.

They're talking to ill parents, making arrangements with a babysitter, trying to sell a boat, ordering dinner, catching up with old friends... etc.

And... like previously mentioned... until a cop DOES pull them over for driving and talking - they won't stop. That's just the way it goes.
