Do cops actually think they're helping anyone when they arrest someone for marijuana?

i was recently arrested for possession of marijuana. several of the police made numerous stoner jokes and laughed about it. i felt like a helpless victim. 2 days after, the same cop that arrested me saw me and turned around and followed me while on my way home from school, im sure he was gonna try and pull me over cause it was obvious he was after me but there was traffic(seriously dont cops have something better to do?)... now when i drive its not the same, i get anxiety attacks even though i dont have anything on me! i know their doing their jobs but do police officers feel good about arresting people for pot, cause i really cant see anyone who benefited from this bs..

to clarify, i was not driving high.

They feel good about arresting people. They get off on putting you in cuffs. It makes them feel big and powerful to harass someone for marijuana. They just love getting awards for chasing people with weed while they let rapists and robbers run loose.

Pot is illegal. I hope they keep arresting you. The rest of us benefit from you not being on the street stoned. Try being a useful member of society.

...it doesn't matter what "they" think... The Police are sworn to enforce the LAW. If you don't like the Law, contact your State Representative and ask to have it changed... (good luck)

Everything you just described there is why more LEO's are getting shot and killed. It is another reason that I see marijuana being decriminalized at the Federal level soon too.

Know you can't see because you are a child and you have to be protected from yourself.

This might come as shock but we have laws which Police officers are required to uphold. What they may or may not feel good about is not important. If you are driving a car under the influence of drugs you need to be dealt with immediately before you impact on somebody else's life.

I understand that you may not be fond of officers that arrest people that possess illegal substances. However, this is their JOB and they're just doing what they were hired to do. Just like a teacher teaches and a janitor cleans, as such does the Law Enforcement Officer enforce the laws in which he or she works.

I agree with one of the previous posters. If this is a law that you are not fond of, please go to your State Representatives and try to get it changed.

Well if I was a cop and caught a guy with dope, I would check him every time I saw him. Of course they have nothing better to do they are cops, they are paid to go around and haraas people.

I'm willing to bet that there are quite a number of people who smoke pot who are a lot more useful to society than Gregory or CTU up there -- including some doctors, lawyers, IT professionals, and even avid volunteers of charities that I know. Don't be a douche bag. The growing number of them is hurting our society a lot more than potheads.
