wow, that's really surprising. well, in Watertown, WI (which is about 25,000 people) the officers definitely do not get paid. I reviewed their budget substantially... and it almost all gets sent up to the county/state level. The only time the department gets any money is for parking tickets (and that is such a small small fraction of their budget that it's hardly worth mentioning) and it doesn't go directly to the officers in any way. And they don't get anything for arrests (well i guess if they end up paying a citation because of it, the same deal as above). You'd have to look at the budget i guess to figure it out for each place. For this department, anyway, the incentive is to make sure that you are "up to par" with your other officers - if they are writing 20 tickets a week and you are writing 2, your supervisors are going to wonder what the heck you're doing when you're supposed to be working. Again though that is really interesting that they get paid, and that much.. that seems to me like it would invite corruption |

That has to be the biggest crock of _ _ _ _ I have ever heard and you believed it?? If that was true don't you think every officer would take as many cite books as they could carry and just stand at a freeway offramp flagging cars while wearing a T-Shirt that says:
JUST 2 MORE CITATIONS AND MY WIFE GETS A NEW TOASTER!!!
Wisen up a bit, your friend has you hook, line, and sinker!! |

In Missouri, there is a statewide law enforcement training fund. In traffic summons cases (in state court, not city courts), each time a fine is paid, 2 whole dollars goes to the training fund and the remainder go to the courts and the school district in which the ticket was written.
It's illegal to collect money for an arrest, per the US Supreme Court some years ago.
In city courts it's different. The city usually retains all of the fine monies, and they are usually put into the police department's operating budget. |

They get paid the same for every day they work. Locking up bad guys is just frosting on the cake. I think your friend was telling a fib. |

It's true. I made $947,334.76 this last year. Hoping to break a million this year. 3 more parking tickets should do it.
Oh...I'm selling the Brooklyn Bridge really cheap. PM me if interested. |

Your friend is pulling your leg! Writing citations and arresting people is just part of the job. No department works on any kind of "pay plus commission" basis! |

I WISH!!!! No, officer's get paid a base salary and don't get bonuses for reaching a monthly "quota" or anything like that. The only extra they get is overtime and holiday pay, just like everybody else.....
No, any funds received via fines goes into a general fund which provides for new equipment, training expenses and such. The department, as a whole, does benefit but the officers, as individuals, do not pocket the money. |

The government that the officer works for will get some of the money, it will go into the general fund the officers themselves will not recieve any additional money for writing citations that is against all state and federal laws |

In Texas, the number of citations we write has nothing to do with our pay. Does he work in Mexico? |

YES!!!! Why do you think they are so unfriendly and alienated from us average citizen's nowadays? It's a racket. All they want is your hard earned (sweat) $$$$$$$$. If the RICO statute could be applied to every L.E.O. Agency in this country, they would all be headed for Leavenworth or Guantanamo!
LEO 53 is the only one that I feel may be telling the truth on here. Thanks LEO 53! |
