I was texting a guy who claimed he was a cop. doe he still have to show me his badge if i ask to see it?

He told me through text he was a cop. all i wanted was a picture of his badge to be sure he was a cop.

No. He does not have to show a badge unless he is taking some type of official action against you. |

Were you being pulled over or arrested...then no.
But by not showing you his badge if you had an altercation makes him suspect. Might just be a wannabe. |

Damn near anyone can but a PD badge online, the badge means nothing, ask for the departmental ID and make sure it looks like an official government document. |

No..only if he is on duty or in a situation where it is required to identify himself as a cop.

No. Cops do not have to show you their badge even if you ask them. This is not a requirement for cops to bragged about their badge every now and then. This is not their duty to do so unless they are going to arrest a suspected person then that is the time they have to show their badge and read them their rights. The main reason is that most cops those who are in civilian should remaining incognito or unrecognizable to be able to capture their suspect(s) otherwise if they show their badge to every one they will be identifying as cops in the pursuit of their fray that would eventually get away. Not a good intelligence work would you think?
You are texting a guy, everyone can claim he is a cop. Even me would tell you I am a cop. It is up to you to believe it or not. Just use your imagination or common sense, if a person is a cop would he tell you that? If I am a cop I won't tell you. It is part of intelligence work as I said. I keep it quiet as possible as I could. What if he show he's badge, anyone can make a badge now a days, with our modern technology with scanner and all of that everyone can duplicate a genuine ID from any department. If he show his badge what's next HIS GUN I suppose, you like to see it too? For one thing, that guy is NOT A COP. He is just fooling you. Next time be alert and use some of your common sense ok! |
