Do cops take a special class to be mean to suspects?

Or are the just born that way?

From my experience there's really no need to be so mean to the suspect.Innocent until proven guilty right?

No Captain Spaulding I'm not a cop and I couldn't be paid enough to turn into that.I have seen the cops in my town shooting innocent people for no reason. For example: About 4 years ago there was a man that had some mental problems and he was running down a little street that wasn't busy, screaming but he had no weapon. What happened? He was murdered by a cop.The cop got fired because he had no right to shoot that man. That's only one example but there's at least ten others that are similar.I've also been around when my parents have been arrested for drugs. They were naked, handcuffed then thrown down on the couch where they were screamed at and called horrible names for no reason. The cops should have just taken them in.It was uncalled for. Then another time my mom got arrested I went back to our house to get her adress book and the cops that were there handcuffed me and screamed at me because apparently I wasn't supposed to be there.I didn't know.I was 16.Stuff like that happens everyday.

No, anyone in law enforcement DOESN'T take a class on how to be mean to suspects, if anything to the contrary. They take a class on ethics and it is taught to them, NOT to be mistreating suspects, because of the lawsuit potential not only do you bring upon yourself, but also to your department.

Keep in mind, if the state doesn't get you or bring you up on some kind of charges, the feds will and it has happened.

Yes, there's good and bad everywhere. Yes, this scenario's often played out in the classrooms and yes, I'll agree with what the other responses is, do they get out of hand, they sure do. But, like I said, remember, in this day and age or technology, someon'es out there recording their movements and turning it over to the media and eventually, they get caught. Some get disciplined some might not. But, you cannot escape your dirty deeds.

Hey, I'm here in Los Angeles, where the police, sheriffs, parole, probation, correctional officers and other law enforcement personnel have been fired, some brought up on trial, some punished, some not, reprimanded, suspended with or without pay, you name it, it's happened.

That is week two in my state. We teach the cadets how to be ruthless. We start by having them sit outside their mother's house and when she leaves for the store we make them write her a ticket.

Innocent until proven guilty is a legal concept. It means that no fines, sentences, fees, or other sanctions can be placed on a person until they are convicted in a court of law. It has nothing to do with their interaction with the Police.

Most of us behave like the citizenry act like they want to be treated. if someone is cool with me then I'm cool with them. If someone acts like Bozo the Clown then I'm the Ring Master.

It sounds like your home life is your real problem. Maybe you should seek family counciling and maybe get your parents some help.

I think that, in the beginning anyway that most are trying to do the right thing but become jaded by the dregs of society. Ya never know when you're pulling somebody over for speeding if they're going to pull a gun or not so they have to become fascist for self-preservation. Then a lot become drunk with power and corruption. People aren't born that way but we do grow into. Absolute power corrupts, absolutely!

ornery and mean
You have a suspect in custody for the abduction of a 14 year old girl, the same age as your daughter, or your niece, or your younger sister.

Do you lean on the suspect a little hard ... trying to get a location of the victim? Let her die because you don't want to violate the suspect's civil rights? Try to appeal to the suspect's humanity?

God forgive me ... I would do what is necessary to bring that child home! If I had to serve some time for doing so ... bring it on!

So, cupcake ... just what experience do you have?

Medic in an Emergency Room, treating rape victims?

A career LEO [Law Enforcement officer] , [I'll be really kind here, a regular officer doesn't make "career status" before he has served 15 years on the job] 5 years or more "in the trenches"?

"That One"
From your experience? Unless you're a cop or you've been a cop, you have no experience. I don't care how many cops you know, how many cops you're related to, or how many cops you've spoke to. You know nothing about it. When you become a cop you can treat people any way you want.

Yeah, it's called the "be confident or get walked on" philosophy. They also call it "fight fire with fire."

Cops need to be mean because the American public is anti-authority by nature. They would never achieve anything if they were passive and gentleman-like to the thugs they keep us safe from.

Some of the people they have to deal with, who they've taken off the street are people who are evil and ruthless to the core. Some of the criminals out there will kill anyone without remorse just to gain a few bucks for the night. I don't blame cops for being forceful with these. I know youths glorify thug-culture in highschool so I can see why this question is asked, but the truth is simple really.

The meanness comes with the disappointment. They thought htey were going to be hot shots. They hate it but can't leave because they make good money with just a high school degree

California Street Cop
No class. Our behavior is on a case by case basis. Someone treats me like ****, I treat them like ****. Its a completely natural human behavior.

Actually, cops shouldn't be mean to suspects.. maybe, they are sort of thinking that if they won't do that, they won't be respected or something of that sort.... anyway, you're right. Suspects still have the chance to prove themseleves innocent and they can sue those who are not respec ting their rights... okay?

They need to be mean, that's what their stupid bosses tell them to do...bunch of idiots.
