Any substance that alters the body or mind is a drug. That includes alcohol, nicotine, caffeine, and, to some degree, even sugar.
I'm reminded of what Kevin Costner's character of Elliot Ness said in the movie "The Untouchables" when asked by a reporter what he would do if prohibition was repealed. He said "probably have a drink". Police enforce drug laws because it is the law, not because of any moral beliefs. I will enforce the law despite what the law is. If I feel so strongly about a particular law that I trefuse to enforce it, then I will quit my job and not enforce any law.
I drink a very small amount. Only beer and only one or two a night, and not every night. I mostly do this for urinary problems, which it seems to help. I can't remember the last time that I was actually intoxicated. If prohibition was reinstated, I would stop drinking at all, because it would be illegal. If caffeine was outlawed, I would stop drinking coffee, and if sugar was banned, I would have to eat my donuts unglazed (lol). If marijuana was legalized, I do not think that I would smoke it, because I do not like the smell or the way it makes people act, but not because of moral convictions.
So does that make me a "drug user"? Technically yes, but so is everyone that drinks coffee, drinks an energy drink, takes sleep-aids, or even an aspirin. ANYTHING, even legal substances, can be abused.
I'm not sure I understand what point you are trying to make. |

Where do you get the basis of your question from? What drugs are you talking about? TYLENOL
Knucklehead - you really aren't that bright - we're tested for illegal drugs! If pot was legal there would be nothing illegal about it other than DWI and company policies. As a police officer I cannot be legally intoxicated while in the performance of duty. Some departments do not even allow there officers to drink alcohol 6-8 hours prior to a start of shift.
Here's a dime - buy a clue! |

Drinking is not the same thing as using drugs... PERIOD. I am a Light drinker on occasions with a glass of wine, or a cold beer during a ball game, I am not a drug user.. That is the difference. |

Hey man, I assume you're asking this question to get some answers. If you criticize all the answers then you'll stop getting them. Everyone has the same 1st Amendment right to express their opinion as you do to ask the question.
When you post a question on here it will be read by a lot of people, each with their own opinion, all of which may have some degree of merit.
It sounds like you just asked a provocative question for the purpose of shooting down the responses, based on your personal views.
Is alcohol a drug? Yep. Do cops know this? yep. Is it an illegal drug? No. So if a cop (or anyone else of age) decides to partake of alcohol, that is their legal personal choice. If it were illegal that would be a different story. It's a moral (albeit moot) issue. Of course thats just my humble and uninformed opinion. I expect you'll find fault with that, too. |

So, you say 'drugs are drugs'.
OK, then. No more Motrin, asthma medication, aspirin, etc....?
Come off it. Its about the effect the drug has on a person. Good Christ. A cop comes to work drunk/hungover/smelling like booze and his/her *** will be susepnded quick. |

Looks like you are trying to convince yourself that since you are off the booze and pot that the coke is still okay and just as bad as booze. Get a friggen life idiot!! Do some research before you start preaching!! |

No rationalization needed.
It is OK if it is legal.

Legal and Illegal is not a rationalization - it's what's allowed by society, and as long as they're following societies laws, there shouldn't be anyone that can say anything about it. Why don't you worry about those that violate our rules and laws and victimize people. That's who the police are out there dealing with and protecting you from. If they want to have a beer when they get home - that's fine. |

One's legal and one's not. Also, cops are human, too. Some are good and some are bad. What's your point here? |

What is your question? Because they carry firearms, than they could be murderers, Because they drive cars they could be could hit someone. You make no sense. Get a grip, they are no different than you. Thier standards should no higher than your's. |

Alcohol is most certainly a drug- a legal drug. I'm sure that many cops realize that the war on drugs is a joke that DOES NOT WORK. So many of them do drink alcohol and perhaps dabble in other things. The only problem lies in living with the hypocrisy of arresting someone for something you may be guilty of. |

In case you didnt get the memo, alcohol is alcohol, not drugs, and it is legal. I think your question is silly. |
