Do i have to give I.D. to the police when they knock on my door?

Me and 2 friends were playing darts from 8:30pm to 9:45pm on my balcony prior to The 10pm noise cut off rules of our appartment complex..The police came and said they could here us as he drove b my balcony and demanded I.D.....arent I protected by the 4th ammendment of the constitution in this matter....We werent yelling and none of us drink alcohol...so we were of sound mind....

OMG are you serious? Just show them your ID and tell them that you will shut up, and they will leave you alone. Why do you have to make this complicated?

But to answer your question, no, you aren't required to show ID. But if they suspect anything, they have the right to detain you until they can determine your identity. So it's probably not a good idea.

Yes and no. You can choose not to provide identification, but the police have the ability to detain you while they determine who you are. So, if you choose not to provide an ID, expect to spend the evening in the police station being fingerprinted and photographed, until they figure out who you are.

They can't do a thing if you don't answer your door. Period.

Ok, did you open the door so they could enter & ask you the question? Did they just ask for ID while behind a closed door? Well...if it was the first, then they could ask for ID but that would be all. It would be better if you had a nice attitude and not let them into your home. Assure them that all is well, that you're sorry you were loud and that you'll turn down the noise level. Antagonism is never a good way to go.
If it was the 2nd scene and behind a door...just what do you think they are going to do? Bust your door down if you don't give them ID? Please...be of sound mind & think about it.
The 4th protects you against unreasonable search...were you being charged with anything or even better, did you let them in & in full view give them something to charge you with? GuardDog

You could have went inside and refused to answer the door, leading them to believe you were suspicious and dealing in drugs or government secrets of evils. etc...lol

first off you should have asked where the **** there warrant was, as you did not have to answer the door otherwise to them,

if the didn't have one, should have told them to **** off as they would need a written complaint to actually knock on your door.
