Hello Rachael. Anyone can write to an inmate in a county or city jail. There is no list for that. You only need his inmate number, which you would place just behind his name on the envelope ( mail would be routed by his number/name since you can have quite a few people with the same common name ( John Smith, etc). You can call the facility, identify the person and ask for his inmate number. They will give it to you over the phone.

You can give your friend your phone number in a letter, but all calls from jail are collect only. The average cost of a collect call runs about $5 and it will show on the phone bill as coming from a correctional facility, so Mom and Dad WILL see it.

As far as visiting, I am assuming you are a minor. No minors are allowed to visit by themselves ( the poster above me is incorrect. Written permission is NOT enough. You need to have your parent or guardian with you while visiting). If you are over 18, you can visit on your own and the facility can give you the days/hours of visitation.

Best of luck and I hope this is useful to you

You can write him a letter if you know the jail's address and his inmate number. Just call the dept. and ask about contacting him. You can be any age.
