Do police have to show you the radar gun after speeding? What happens if they don't?

No, he does not have to show you. If you decide to plead not guilty, the officer can be questioned, in court, about the radar gun he used, it's operation and maintenance.

No clue. But a cop once told me that if you go to court and ask to see the calibration log for that particular radar gun that have to provide it. And if they are unable to prove that it was properly calibrated then you can usually get the ticket thrown out. But I have traffic court on the 5th I can let you know if this theory actually works.

No they do not have to show you the radar gun ( or equipment, often it is not a gun but a box) Actually it is procedure for you not to get out of your car, but to remain in your car. ( radar equipment unless it is portable) can not be taken out of a car)

And the officer may or may not have locked the highest speed in, but watched it go up and/or down to see what the top speed may have been.

And what do you mean there is no way to contest a speeding ticket.

2. is the officers Post certification up to date
3 is the officers Post certification on radar equipment up to date
4. Was the radar equipment tested with a tuning fork prior to the officer using it or starting his shift
5. Get a copy of the daily test log on the equipment
6. Get a copy of the officers incident report he writes with the ticket.
7. There is also a very detailed procedure in tracking a car using radar ( not just point and shoot) they have to visually track, determine which is the fastest car of a group and so on. Was this done,

Next what was the weather, radar can have errors in fog or mist or rain

Next was the officer moving, speeding up, slowing down, was he sitting at an angle, if so what angle, it all effects the ability of radar to work.

A good traffic attorney wins a majority of speeding tickets from various means.

But show you the radar gun, no he does not have to do that.

Cops are not required to show you the reading they got on the radar gun. Believe me i know for sure.

So he needs to pay the ticket and slow down in construction zones

The answer is no, they don't have to show you the speed.

Radar is not the only way to get your speed.
There are a lot of ways your speed could have been determined.

First, almost all police vehicles have certified, calibrated speedometers. The police will get behind you and pace your speed. It's legit and you won't have much of a chance.

Second, they can do the classic radar in the car. The twist is, the officer that pulled you over may not be the officer who "clocked" your speed. They can have a radar car (or officer with a hand-held radar) clocking speeds while other officers pull you over. Also legit.

Lastly, don't forget the old airplane!

Call up your local law enforcement agency and ask them. Usually they're more than willing to show you that you have been caught, well through my experience.

No, but you can argue the speed on the ticket. The best think to do when you get caught for speeding is when the officer comes to the window you are now the dumpiest person on the planet. You don`t know why you are pulled over. You don`t know how fast you were going. You don`t know the speed limit. You are not from the spot you are pulled over at. You were not looking at the speedometer you were looking at the road or construction workers in your case. However you were paying attention!!!! Remember if you fight a ticket and the ticket reads 10 over but on the side is the actual speed then that officer can change the ticket to the actual in court. More then likely if you were paying attention and play it dump then you may not get the ticket but in a construction zone I would right you up.

No, they do not have to show you. Many do not know how to read the equip or they lie. This comes from being a basically untrained profession( I use profession loosely). Have him take an atty, he'll get off, but it may be more expensive. The cts usually let the attys bargain with them. Remember that court is a game, it is not about fairness and justice.....

Absolutely NOT!! If he is so sure that he was not breaking the posted speed have him contest the ticket in court...I'm sure the Officer has nothing better to do than lie about speeding citations. It has NO bearing on his salary so why would he lie. Understandably, there are bad lemons in every bunch but for something like this it could never benefit the Officer so why would he lie??

Actually the officer is not required to show you the radar. The Radar is only a tool to help the officer confirm what he has observed i.e. you speeding. And there ARE many ways to contest the ticket, such as conditions when clocked on radar, officer training, condition of radar etc. People need to understand that the officer does not have to prove anything on the scene, that's what court is for, that's where you dispute the complaint.

In court, is not the radar gun the witness aginst you? The constitution requires that you are entitled to confront the witness aginst you.

Absolutely not, even if it were planned to radar your speed, it is called entrapment and it is totally legal. my husband and i were at McDonald's and the cop ran his plates just cause he thought he was someone else. we pulled over, ate, and left down the road. meanwhile, the cop was on our *** the whole way, and then decided to pull him over and tell him that my husbands license were suspended without us even knowing about it. they do not have to have proof for anything they do, that is why they are the law and we are the science experiments
