I leave my sidearm on my belt. Long guns stored in the car are brought in routinely for inspection and cleaning. |

Depends on the Department and it's rules and regulations, after that it depends on the officer, add to that it also depends if the officer drives a take home car. Around here I'd say every state police car marked or unmarked has a shotgun in it. Other departments with take home cars one might find either an AR-15 or even a M16 in the vehicles. Some departments have both a shotgun and a M16 in it. I know a few officers that carry a sidearm in their car on duty or off. Some even go so far as affixing a safe box to hold their sidearm when they are away from their car and don't want to carry it off duty.
The departments without take home cars, mostly city cars, the shotgun (if there is one) usually stays in the cruiser if the car is in service. |

Long arms are usually stored in police cars and removed and properly stored when the car is not in use. I always had my hand gun and secondary weapon on me at all times. Even when I'm off duty I'm always packing and I never leave a weapon in a car. |

If my hand gun is not on me it is locked in one of my safes at home or in a lock box at the station gym or court.
Never ever in my own car or a department car. |
