Hi, general question about the law. Most people under age 18 who run away are usually placed in juvenile correction centers, but what about people at or over age 18? Since they are older, do the police take them to jail instead of juvie?

Runaway is classified as a status crime. This means it is illegal only because of your age. Because you become an adult at 18, it is not illegal.
If someone in my state is entered as a runaway, and turns 18, the computer automatically purges the information. |

At age 18, you are legally responsible for your own actions and you are no longer in the custody of your parents. So the answer is no, there is not even a charge for running away for people who are over the age of 18. |

You can not technically "run away" when you are 18 or older. You are an adult and can do whatever you want. If you are living at home and your parents are being mean and you "run away" or leave the house and they call the police on you there isnt anything the police will do, they wont even go looking for you, unless you are missing. Your an adult and can do whatever you want. If they do find you after you are missing, they still wont take you anywhere unless you commited a crime or something along the way. |
