It is not the word, but the tone of the voice and how it is used. It can be just a name or used as a bad word if done in certain tones.
But compared to many things they are called everyday, cop is one of the better words |

Not if They Truly Understand what [C][O][P] Really Means. What is the Formal Term for Police Officer? [C]onstable! What is a Police Officer doing on the Job? [O]n [P]atrol! Therefore, a Cop is a Constable On Patrol! Now, the Term "Copper" may be somewhat Negative, and may well Indicate a Potential for Bribery, but not "Cop"! I have Friends in Law Enforcement, and as a Joke I will Sometimes Say, "Are You The Constable On Patrol"? The First Time, They Don't "Get It"! That's what's so Funny! Then, I will Ask, "Okay, What's the First Letter of each of those Three Words, Put Together"? They Always Get a good Laugh Out of that One! But, it only Works Once! Try It! Especially on Someone New on the Job, right out of the Academy! It Truly is a <*>L<*>O<*>L<*>! That Means Lots of Laughs, Expanded! |

The term "cop" actually is short for "copper". In the old days, it was easy to pay off a police man with copper. They were looked down upon as easily bribed. So the nick name coppers came out, people started to use it slang, cops. Some police men just don't like the term. I hope this answeres your question! |
