Do survillance cameras in stores and store parking lots really work?

and is there always someone watching them? and is it true that if you steal something and walk out with getting caught while in the store chances are you're not gonna get caught? and can the parking lot cameras get every single license plate on the car in the parking lot?

the cameras really help police out alot to identify and see what really went down when big crime happens like robbery at gunpoint, abuse, or a death. no they are not super efficient though cuz they dont see alot of details. most of the time when people steal food and things from gas stations and stuff they don't care because it's not a big deal for them people do it frequently, most of the time nothing happens.

i used to work at JCPenney and there was someone back there 90% of the time watching the cameras.

and yes, they arrested people and called the cops...
