Yes I should think we do the best that we can with what we have and know. |

Overall , yes they do , but you'r always( as with any other occupation ) gonna get individuals who are'nt doing their job properly . |

yes, i have to have some contact with their communications centre whilst i am work, they handle some 2000 jobs a day, starting from zero at midnight, they go to very difficult situations
and threatening ones, during their working day. You might not think they are doing a good job, because you cannot see all the man power spent during the 24 hour day. Most of us would not
venture into some of the situations they go to, yet they are like
us only human, wanting to earn a days wage and go home
safely at night |

I thnik we do the major things good such as murder, rape etc etc
I think we give a very poor service to the public for the lesser crimes.
All too often we are tied up dealing with nonsense while genuine people who need us have to wait.
And no-one likes being told off. |

Look at A Policemans Blog [ Pc Copperfield] to see what The police actually have to put up with from within the force & the community. |

I guess they do, with the resources they have to work with. |

Police have become much more Professional in the last 30 years- but they are to focused on busting people for petty violations, like Pot possesion, minor traffic violations, DUI and 911 calls that are petty in nature- they should be there to deter major crime- but they are in the business of creating Revenue, petty tickets and other things to generate fines. What we are creating by this is a police State. |

because i live on the line between 2 counties the police presence is non exsistant here!! they have to come from 10 miles away to get here! its rediculous!
i'm not saying they don't do a all round good job but in my perticular area they don't |

i think they do a good job and for all those that dont - how about we take them away and see what happens - you will soon think they do a good job once your house is burgled and you are beaten up and there is no one around to help you. |

I would say that 100% of the time the police do a good job at what they do. They give it their all.
Is what they are doing "good"? That is a different animal. Cops have a mindset, a game face and many think they can do no wrong.
Just a handful of shoddy cops make it hard for people to trust the police. |

Its a job, just like anything else. You have people that are good at it and some that are not so good. But, I challenge anyone on here who doesn't like cops to let me spit on you and and punch you while you are being video taped. I'll pay you 12 bucks, which is the going hourly rate for a new cop where I live. |

back in the middle ages, each count or duke had his own private police force and army
there was no 'law' but a sense of chivalry and code of honour, if you lived outside it then you were an 'outlaw' - if the local duke or landowner was corrupt then many did so out of a sense of 'justice' (robin hood, etc - in that what they were doing was 'right' but against the 'law')
this applies to many of the 'criminals' that we shipped abroad and that is why justice is so integral to american culture
in the 1800s and early 1900's, the police force only really existed for the gentry so the problem is really that we all expect too much
it wasnt until the jack the ripper murders that modern day police styling started with a large police force searching for one man with a common goal - also it should probably be noted that they didnt find him ;o)
traditionally the police role has been enforcement of taxes and to act as a presence or deterrent, in some cases it could be considered that our class structure acts as a conflict of interest
we all expect the same service but we are all not contributing the same level to the policemans wages, we should really have a bill of rights or constitution that states that we are all 'equal' then we wouldnt feel we have the need to look up or down on anyone
unless you change the tax system, we cant all have the same service basically it would cost too much - the service you get depends on where you are and who you are, areas with higher crime should pay a higher tax with a higher percentage going to police and then they would get a higher service perhaps?? a local tax rate in effect |

They try - well most of them do.
But are faced with lack of recruitment of police officers - the Home Office want to employ Police Community Support Wardens instead - on lower salaries and cheaper pension schemes.
They are threatened with not getting an annual cost of living payrise - thus basically threatening them that their standard of living will DECREASE - which would surely leave the door open to temptation - ie corruption!!!!!!!
It is a good job, a hard job, a frustrating job, a minefield of political correctness and paperwork. I'd like to see some of the people who moan about the police try to do their job for one day.
Never knowing when you are next going to be able to eat or use the loo, be spat at, abused or attacked. Not knowing if you will finish work on time, whether there will be a huge debate about whether they should actually PAY you for working overtime ............ and on and on and on.
So, some of you police haters, think about whether YOU could do it!!! |

I'm sure there are a FEW cops out there who are doing a good job but for the most part, they are a bunch of losers that got picked on throughout high school and are just out there for revenge and that little badge gives them all the power to do so. |

I have been a victim of crime a few times, someone tried to steal my car, I had my car stereo stolen, I had my windows put through and some other stuff stolen out of my car I just seemed to be in the wrong places at the wrong times and I reported all these things to police and to be honest they were rubbish, I don't report things anymore because there is no point I just get my crime number for my insurance and that's it. Unless your are speeding they are not interested. |

Since many police forces are controlled by the politically correct brigade instead of clear thinking representatives of the population who know what the rest want from their police force, it's difficult to say whether or not the police do a good job.
Maybe if they had proper funding from the government they wouldn't need to raise money through speed cameras and traffic offences and would therefore have time to deal with the crime that we all fear, instead of the soft option of nabbing generally law abiding motorists. |

Before you read my answer, I have no axe to grind, I have never been in any trouble with the police, I just keep well away from them and keep them well away from me. If I see a police car behind me I Pull over, take a left or a right, whilst they are behind you, there is a clear target for them and the longer they are there the bigger their target, any Bobby can find a fault on any car or driver if they want to. I have held a clean licence for 34 years, and counting.
My answer is No!
The Police are selective in the work that they do, they will always pick the easy work and usually get even that wrong. If anybody makes a complaint about them, they create a problem for themselves, they can be as clean and honest as the next man, but a vendetta will start from offended police and motoring offences are the common revenge and in some cases a lot more.
They are never there when you need them, they rarely respond to crimes in progress. and solved crime is rare, unless they act on top-offs from the public who have no faith in them and see them as a legalised gang of thugs, bullies, conspirators, thieves and hypocrites.
They are corrupt throughout
and even the Innocent Bobby's are corrupted by the system and afraid to speak out against their colleagues. try as they may, "The system is bigger". |

Not really. The police in most big cities spend more time writing up reports then they do actual policing. And they violate the civil rights of citizens all the time. And in the cases where a suspect is shot, many times, that is not needed. And whatever happened to wounding a suspect? Example: In Atlanta there was a man with a knife, he was surrounded by about 10 officers, all with guns drawn. After a few minutes he was shot to death. Now tell me that one of these officers couldn't have wounded him.
If you watch the TV show "Cops", you can see that most of the police are out of control. Example: A man gives up, doesn't have weapon, so three cops tackle him, one knells on his neck, the two others twist his arms in such a way that he can't put his arms behind his back and all the time they are yelling him. If Charles Manson walks out of a house and stands with his hands in the air, turns around when he is told to, there is no need to slam him to the ground and knell on his neck, EVER.
The police make illegal stops all the time. Probable cause must be shown BEFORE a stop is made. Usually they make a stop without cause and then make up a cause afterwords. Happens all the time. And, of course, once you or I are stopped they then search you and your car, which is not legal. Reasonable suspicion is needed before any stop can be made, according to a supreme court ruling, and then probable cause MUST be shown. That is not how most police forces operate. They then read you your rights, one of which is to remain silent, and then question you in the hope then you will say something they can use against you. In short, most police operate as if no rights exist and they have authority to do whatever they want to.
An officer in Milwaukee was caught and charged after he phoned a suspect and told him, in part, "I will put a case on you." |
