Do we need vigilantes NOW? To do the work that the police no longer do?

Parents, Police, Teachers, The Judiciary, The Government.
Thanks to political correctness, none of the above are doing their jobs properly!
Do we bring in private police and rough justice?

No... What we need is the Home Office to let go of the reighs that they have on us so tightly and release us to our full potential....! |

NO NO No No No No, oh wait did I say
NO!
That is an abosulute last resort.
They'll very quickly degenerate into a mob, acting first, thinking later - no better than the thugs they're trying to stop. I agree the Police aren't doing it anymore but is that their fault?
Red tap, paperwork, the constant PC shadow looming over everything they do, The dreaded cry of "infringed Human Rights" - it makes me sick!
Oi! politicians , get your fingers out and get us back to a place where the Police are VISIBLE all the time and have the autonomy to act as they see fit.
Human rights and protection under the law are a privelage bestowed by society on the majority who abide by societies codes. Those that reject this law have demonstrated a disdain for societies rules - they have therefore waived their rights and cannot - should not be allowed to claim any protection from them.
Prisoners bleating about human rights because they don't have a coloured TV in their cell or they're locked up for too long - has the world gone completely mad - somewhere around the early 80's I must have crossed into a parallel universe run by half wits!
Stop relying on CCTV. If there's piles of paperwork employ more adminstration staff and let the Police do their job.
OR
do nothing and watch the country plunge into complete dystopian anarchy with gangs of supposed do gooders running around causing more trouble than the low lifes and making the police's job even more difficult.
Ladymoonlight - you've got it - we need more police like your friend withthe free hand from the authorities to crack a few skulls - it worked in the past and it certainly will again! |

That's a pretty broad statement. I know people in all of those positions that you named and everyone of them is a dedicated professional who is doing a fantastic job.
So, where did you say you got your statistics from? |
|

What a guy!!
|
Yours is a very complex question. The police do their job very well, you just don't know what their job is; like most people. Robert Peel recognized that this society was going to be very unfair, so he created a force to defend the lives and possessions of the 'haves' from the 'have nots' in society; rather than trying to alter society to be more fair for everybody. As you know, the police have a terrible record at fighting crime, but capitalism is still very safe. The police are doing their job very well indeed. Fighting crime is just a cover to make poor people think that the police force exists to protect and to serve.
If you doubt what I say, read his submission to parliament. |

YES rough justice is the only way to go as no one worries about punishment because government parents teachers police and the judiciary are to soft on people that have commited crimes!!! |

No because if you do all of the aforementioned will be forced to turn against you. The best thing you can do is try to release the parents, police, teachers, judiciary and government from the scourage political correctness. Join with them and try to help them overcome this mess we all face. Believe me, they don't like it any more than you do. |

I would love to say YES but I don't know if vigilantes would work for long - you'd always have someone in the group wanting to swallow more power, etc.
In my opinion they should turn the clock back and bring back some of the older methods used throughout the different centuries - public floggings, the stocks, the ducking stool, (only not to the point where people are being drowned) - imagine those gobby women who always stick up for their children who are usually terrorising some innocent person in their homes if they were ducked into the local reservoir in front of the people their children are tormenting - imagine the little sh!ts who think it's so big to assault someone or to cause damage to other peoples homes or belongings when they are locked into the stocks in the local town centre and have people throw cow cr@p at them or something similar - public whippings should also be considered. With today's technology they probably won't make as many mistakes as they did years ago - I'm not saying this should be done for everyone but I definately think that the repeat offenders should experience something like this - a proper deterrant.
I think they should bring back the Borstals and approved schools but learn from the mistakes of years gone by and really keep a close eye on things. My ex-partner was that physically and emotionally abused at home that when he was finally sent to an approved school for two years he thrived from the attention and compassion and understanding being given to him and he really didn't misbehave at all there! |

Edit:- well I suggest you read Ladymoonlight below. Vigilanteism works. You can go on as much as you want about needing more police, blah blah blah, heard it all before, but why do you keep going on about it. If it didn't happen 10 years ago it is not going to happen now. So it's time to look at alternatives. If we could rely on Govt and the police, we would not have a problem would we? But we can't, so it's time to take control of our own lives and communities. Just like the Krays did. In their area of East London there were no muggings, kids misbehaving, scaring of the elderly, they were too scared to do it themselves, because the Krays made it like that. Vigilantes and intimidation. Those against it are those who have kids out of control, that;s why they are against it. |

Then we would need more cops or more vigilantes to arrest and prosecute the vigilantes who commit crimes in the name of rough justice. For instance, if a vigilante detains a suspect and doesn't take them forthwith to the nearest magistrate, then someone will have to investigate the charge of kidnapping by the vigilante. Which would be very cool if the detained person was simply going for a stroll while being of the wrong race or something like that. |

Not necessarily.
Just from what little I see online, and in the local news in my neighborhood, it isn't so much an "action" issue, based on political correctness. It's a *control* issue.
Parents do poorly when they are told they *can't spank* their kids, but then aren't given a *good* replacement for that potentially abusable behavior.
Police get tasers....only to wind up on YouTube zapping men with infants in hand, old ladies, students in libraries....they are taught *how* to zap people, but not *When* it's appropriate (or not) to do so.
Teachers aren't allowed to drill like they used to, or to discipline kids like they did even when I was in school....and yet the replacements they *get* are more about political brownie points than they are about *getting the results*.
And well....your last two examples are a mess that goes well *above and beyond* the scope of this particular question. Politics are messed up in America, no doubt. Some of this is by design--the Founding Fathers preferred slow and *weak* government to tyranny--but some of this is because we as Americans refuse to get a spine and get Big Business, and their lobbyists, and the Media *they own*, out of Politics.
And that is the simple, polite version. It gets gnar-gnar from there as you know. Sorry.
But I digress. The point is, in the three examples above that I gave, it wasn't about a *lack of powers* per se, or a lack of action. It was about a lack of *good judgement* or *good sense*. Simply put, it's what happens when people on the job are paid to *Obey* and *Not to Think*. When people are generally *not* allowed to think for themselves, and are forced to just blindly obey an agenda--*any* agenda--this sort of thing happens
And that is important. Blindly letting politics substitute for good judgement--political correctness--is *bad* regardless of the political agenda involved. Left, right, top or bottom, it doesn't matter, what *matters* is the Blind Following of Orders replacing Good Judgement. When people just *react* because that is all they feel they are *paid to do*, and they Don't Think....you get policemen zapping homeless old ladies to death, teachers who don't teach kids to read and write by *High School* and Parents with 3-Year Old Gangsta Rappers (and all the foul-mouthed language that implies).
I hope this makes a little sense and is helpful. ^_^ The problem is *not* a lack of action. We don't need *Batman* running around. The problem is a lack of *thoughtful* action and actual *problem solving*.
In other words, if we need heroes, they need to be more about finesse and not "rough justice".
Thanks for your time. ^_^ |

we cant go down this road but it needs the government to give the law back to the police so they can do there job ,but the real part or discipline must start with parents |

Vigilance,Yes! Citizens Patrols,Yes! Vigilantes means armed, angry citizens. Here in the New Orleans area I would side with the Midnight Militia, the thugs need to feel Terror and crawl back into their holes. The Police would side with "Posse Comitatus" if they authorized it task force style.Whatever happens,be on the right side of the issue. In this area the Police do their job,the Judicial system is broken and the Jails are overflowing with unprocessed prisoners who end up being released.Known multiple killers have been reluctantly released. The Police could do nothing about it.The solution would be Martial(Military) law. That would step on a lot of rights we take for granted. However,it is the lesser of two evils.................... |

a nice start would be to start arming your police officers with actual handguns. I heard the story about the police not wanting to come into some neighbourhoods. This happens in the States also but only because the criminals in our crappiest neighbourhoods have bigger and badder guns than the police do. Not so in the UK. Arm those cops and tell to start kicking a** and taking hyphenated names. |

It has been my experience that (most) of the Police do arrest and charge, but then by the time it gets to the prosecutors offices and courts they start playing lets make a deal. Replace the D.A.'s and the Judges that rule from the bench instead of going by the law, we might have a chance in the future. It is the norm for them to drop the charges or lessen them without even informing the police. It infuriates the police after they have charged them and then they are just let back out to do the same things again and again. |

No we give the Police a free rein to tackle the problems even though it will provoke riots. with the amount of illegal immigrants they catch, and when they catch them no messing about just deport them straight away. Its rough and tough i Know but lets get our streets safe once more. |

Why do you have so little respect for the police? Do you know any police officers personally? I suspect they would knock your teeth through your head if you asked them this. Being a police officer is a tough and often thankless job. The last thing they need is people with no training or objectivity taking the law into their own hands (also called "revenge killings" just like in Iraq and Afganistan!) |
|

Hell yes we need vigilante justice. Too often criminals get off scot free because of activist judges, stupid juries and greedy lawyers who will say and do anything to get their client off. Criminals will keep on doing what they are doing until we as a society stand up to them and to the liberal do gooders who idiotically believe that everyone can be rehabilitated. Rehabilitation doesn't work. Get that through your thick skulls. |

Something needs to be done, it is the courts and not the police. The police do their job and the courts and a lot of stupid jurors are letting killers walk. There is a woman at the end of our road in Phenix City, Alabama that shot her son in law in her front yard and he died in the ambulance. Glenn Hall had no weapon, he was walking to his car and was shot by her . Why? to shut him up because the two had an affair and he was about to talk. The details came out in court. Having the affair was wrong of both of them. M... Neel took a father away from his children. Guess what, she was found not guilty even with the gun and neighbors that witnessed it. It had something to do with the circumstances that they let her walk. The courts have got to do a better job of providing justice when the evidence is overwhelming. The mentality of thinking the criminal is too attractive and feeling sorry for them has to stop as is what happened again in the Casey Anthony trial. Dumb jurors, reason was we don't know how she killed her (Caylee was decomposed) instead of we know who killed her. They let a CHILD KILLER loose this time and it is hard to respect our court system when this happens. I personally have no respect for these jurors for letting a child killer go free. |
