Do you believe that America is now a police state. Do you feel scared when you see the police or comforted.?

Used to be that one would associate police state and police brutality with a south american country' or so shown on US. TV. Take a look at home, are American police becoming more brutal and selfserving than ever. Is The term shock and awe an inforcement policy. do you feel you are considered guilty, until they prove you guilty.

The police aren't all bad. I work for them as a dispatcher. Pretty good people if you ask me. They're underpaid and overworked. Everyone screws up once in awhile, and yea, there are some bad ones that ruin it for everybody.

Mr. Goodhi
Yes,

it's getting to be more like that every day...

This is true here with the L.A.P.D. for everyone except the undocumented folks and street gangsters.

They get carte blanche with the L.A.P.D.

No,i don't believe America is now a copper state.

I don't feel scared when i see coppers because i KNOW i didn't/don't do anything illegal and I'm always in my apartment so i can't be accused of anything.

I also don't feel comforted when i see them because there are so many innocent people being abused, tortured or killed by the police.

They/coppers are NOT the same as when i was growing up,back then, their goal was to SERVE and PROTECT the public,
now MOST are just SELF-SERVING SADISTS.

This does NOT include the few and far between good cop!

Only if Obama is in charge.

Obama reminds me of the Movie Soylent Green

Replace the movie's scenes of huge crowds who desperately gathered for food with the television images of Obama's super-sized campaign rallies, where disaffected voters frantically gather to see the pseudo-messianic figure of Obama deliver vacuous promises of "change" and "hope."

Not to mention this little tidbit:

This guy wants to be our President and control our government.
Pay close attention to the last comment!! Below are a few lines from
Obama's books ' his words:

From Dreams of My Father: 'I ceased to advertise my mother's race at the age of 12 or 13, when I began to suspect that by doing so I was ingratiating myself to whites.'

From Dreams of My Father : 'I found a solace in nursing a pervasive sense of grievance and animosity against my mothers race.'

From Dreams of My Father: 'There was something about him that made me wary, a little too sure of himself, maybe. And white.'

From Dreams of My Father: ; 'It remained necessary to prove which side you were on , to show your loyalty to the black masses, to strike out and name names.'

From Dreams of My Father: 'I never emulate white men and brown men whose fates didn't speak to my own. It was into my father's image, the black man, son of Africa , that I'd packed all the attributes I sought in myself, the attributes of Martin and Malcolm, DuBois and Mandela.'

From Audacity of Hope: 'I will stand with the Muslims should the political winds shift in an ugly direction.'

I no longer use drugs or use violence to get my own way, I am ashamed of who I used to be. But now I am much happier and have more freedom now than I ever had in the past.

I now have no need to fear them, I am so glad they are there without the police this country would be lawless and people like who I used to be would rule the streets.

Only criminals fear the police....
they dont like being stopped
I know I didnt
I am so Glad I was.

The Police have a rotten job, they deal with societies trash while being disrespected...

They need our help, report a criminal today, make your area safe for good people

The bad guys may grow up and become men if they don't get away with crime, they have almost no hope if they get away with it though

It is not as cut-and-dried as only fearing the police if you are a criminal. Many bad things can happen to people who are innocent by bad cops. I know from experience.

I go a lot further than the average person. When I see a cop, I don't worry for me, I worry for what that cop may do wrong. They are certainly not all perfect, and when a cop isn't perfect, it's a very very irritating.

I would say it can be like a police state in certain communities. I have never felt comforted by a cop being around. I am pretty individualistic and the idea of having babysitters is silly to me. I either feel neutral, or I feel angry if I see them breaking traffic laws.

If a cop is legal and respectful, I have no problem at all. Mainly feel neutral. Unfortanately, one doesn't know that of a cop unless you know the officer from prior experience and in a big city, that's hardly ever.

It depends on the agency. I live in the Denver area. The Denver PD is notorious for being out of control and that angers me! They are trying to clean it up, but it's slow.

I can only speak for the Denver area, but some cops around here regularly do illegal things. I see them or hear about them and I feel anger. I know some can't be trusted to respect mine or anyone elses civil rights. I know most don't obey all the traffic laws all the time. That is a fact. It disappoints me.

I think there shouldn't be police. Shouldn't NEED them. Who are they for? Law breakers and wimps. Those people need to change it up and then we won't need cops.

People always talk about a few cops ruining it for everyone. But consider this: if all of the "good" cops were that good, they would weed out the bad ones and there wouldn't be any bad cops. If there are any bad cops out there (just ONE) then the good ones aren't that good.

Now, if a cop is legal and respectful, I have no problem at all. The second a cop is disrespectful or illegal, I feel anger.

thats ridiculous.....unless you feel guilty about something

I feel extra safe when I see cops. I am one and so is my wife.

Seeing police gives me comfort, I wish there were more of them around.

Most police are honest individuals trying to do the right thing. In any profession there are the "bad apples" which tend to ruin it for everyone. It's not fair to judge a group or profession based on the conduct of a few.

Should we stereo-type all priests as child molesters?

We could easily turn this around on the non-police culture. If everyone was honest and responsible, then we would not need the police.

No.
A Police State is far more severe then anything you can imagine.
Look at the last regimes of Panama and Noriega or The Middle East and the butchers of society over there as a dictator ship or police state.
A real police state is Mexico.

I think the police are on our side. The government, I'm not so sure of. When I think of the police state I think more of the Patriot Act, certain unconstitutional presidential orders, and telecom communication surveillance. And Real ID.

well first I would like to say to the dude who is quoting Obamas words from his books. You really need to look at the context of him saying that hey. Its the same way you can pick half a phrase from the khoran or the bible and find something offensive if it is not read in context.

No America is not a police state, that is paranoia. community police are meant to intimidate anyone who wants to commit a crime by their presence. Would you go rob a house if you saw a cop car parked down the road?

LadyTazzy
The police are more brutal because the offenders are. They really have a tough job. I feel comfort when I see a cop, but relatives were cops. Never felt anything other than comfort, but then too, I never had anything to hide. lol

If America was a police state you wouldn't be able to ask such a BS question on a website owned by an American company.

I <3 cops.
