Do you feel the Police are doing a good job in enforcing law & order?

Mr. PhD
Generally maybe. (I know, sounds ambiguous). Police generally do a good job at investigating crime. They do a good job at traffic enforcement. They generally do a poor job at actually stopping crime or actually helping victims. A lot of this problem has to do with PC (politically correct). At one time, only the largest officers were hired to protect the citizenry. Now, a 4'9" officer who couldn't fight off a small dog is hired to "protect" you. Most criminals would just assume kick this person's butt than comply with their verbal commands.

I also believe that like most civil employees, cops have moved away from serving the citizens, to expecting citizens to serve them. They also tend to put themselves on the same plane of service as our military (sorry Mr. Cop, your 3%/50 pension along with your compensation package puts you out of range of any martyrdom)

if you want to break the law and get away with it come a policeman

They appear to be doing a fine job in my community. The ones that I have interacted with have been polite and professional. I have no complaints and our crime is low.

no, they opress the black man

Yes. Our politicians have done a terrible job in actuall hand-
cuffing the police from doing a better job. The burden of proof
in many cases are impossible, especially with so-called
"white-collar" crimes. Our prisons and jails are full to the
brim with people whose crimes are mostly agains themselve
such as drug abuse, unpaid fines, no-shows, etc. Our
police is geared to arresting those people who are least
defensive and often times the poorest.

The answer is yes and no
If I am a petty crook burglar, a joy rider, a gypsy, then it seems I can do what I want
But because I live in a house pay tax and bills on time and am easy to find then no
If crooks rob a bank then heaven and earth is moved to find the culprit
if I get burgled or car broken into then if your lucky you may get a visit from a policeman or now they seem to do things over the phone and give you a incident no. and a pamphlet through your door a few days later,
The judges and courts are a mess with weak sentences
Build more prisons up in Scotland in remote places im sure the Scots would be happy to get more jobs.
More juvenile detention centers
Make joyriding a prison sentence

They there after the fact. arresting people is one part of many to PREVENT crime, not just punish violators. Oh yeah, they should stop discriminating also.

IWIU
No, but I think they are doing a good job in eating up all the good donuts and leaving only the ones left that I don't like.

I think half of the time police are doing their jobs, the other half, the crooked cops are setting people up and beating them into false confessions or booking them on bogus charges.

When they set up traps to catch people, such as; In a city near Fort Worth,Texas, undercover cops are posing as drunk civilians past out on the road/sidewalk/grass, with their wallets showing money out of their back pockets. If anyone takes the wallets out of their pockets or take their money, they arrest the person and book them with a charge of theft or whatever the charge is for taking something obviously showing. That to me, is a waste of time. Why is this such a big deal. There hasn't been a sting of robbery's involving drunk victims so why would you waste city money to do this.

Not in the UK, that's for sure.

NO! Most of those who are police, were dorky kids without respect.
Upon receiving there blues, badge and gun. They see the respect and begin to abuse their authority.
For the few officers in blue who show respect at all times-HATS OFF! I APPLAUD YOU.

Snowdog74
They enforce the laws for the poor. The "Rich and Powerful" are exempt from "our laws".

Violent and bored
I think they do what is within their power to do.

Personally I feel rather sorry for the Police. I feel that they are policing to government policy rather than for the good of their communities and this is something they have no control over.

When I was growing up, I saw the local policeman or woman as a pillar of respect and also to be feared, this wasn't that long ago, I'm only 33 now! Kids (and adults) these days have no respect for any authority, whether that be Police or teachers.

want_to_explore_life
In the UK - NO!!!...

Not always their fault - too much paperwork - but they do seem to enjoy fish'n'chips & shopping in tescos while they're on duty! ohh - and breaking speed limits when not on a call..

the police would be doing a brilliant job, if the courts did there job and actually handed out decent sentences to criminals instead of worrying about their human rights! all the police can do is bring offenders to court, from there its not their responsibility

Obviously different areas get different responses. Overall - yes. There wouldn't be so many people whining about being arrested/ticketed/stopped/etc if they weren't out there doing their job. What you see isn't always accurate. "It takes forever for them to get here"...well what if when you called for the non emergency call they were winding up an accident where a 5 year old was run over - they get done there, have to try to get to your location and people do not yield right of way promptly...and the FIRST thing they hear from you is "what took you so f***** long eating donuts". I mean come on give 'em a break...y'all don't have a clue.
People complain getting a ticket...they are ENFORCING THE LAW!! The law says you speed you can be stopped and ticketed. You know it. You do it and get a ticket stop freaking whining and own up to it. The cop didn't have his foot on your gas pedal - YOU DID. You go out drinking and get your car impounded don't get an attitude with the cop and tow company - YOU did it. Bear responsibility for your actions and a lot of cops would have time to do nothing like y'all think they do.
They deal with stuff no one else wants to and we expect them to have enough compassion to deal with one thing but cut off that compassion when they have to deal with the ugly stuff..that most don't want to deal with. They watch the revolving door of domestic violence and other issues and keep responding to the same calls and aren't supposed to be frustrated in any way at people who deliberately put themselves right back in the situation they removed you from last week/month.
There is one officer for thousands of people in a given town proportionate to population - there is no way he can be in five locations at once. Many people seem to need a serious reality check because the last one bounced...life does not revolve around YOU. They don't avoid coming or pull you over or anything else because you are just too special they can't resist. And when they do and you get an attitude with them they're supposed to just not say or do a thing.
get over it. They do the best they can for too little thanks and not enough money and too much risk. There's more that I can't/won't say here but I believe MOST do the best they can and do an awesome job to the best of their ability. They're expected to do the impossible - be perfect for everyone. They can't. But that doesn't mean they aren't doing a good job.

they're worse than the wombles. the only way they catch any seriously good criminals is if some low life grasses. without a grass they're f***ed and tend to pick on the youngsters for petty stuff. what a waste of space eh

no they can do better. they seem to b there when u dont need then & not when u do.
i guess sum of the cops r ok though.

NICK C
I'm an off duty Police Officer and I can tell you that there is a definite fall in serious crime. The reasons are: that nobody bothers to report crime any more because we don't seem that interested and make you wait for hours at the Police Station.
We all find it easier to catch motorists in the bus lane, if there's a proper crime we usually get there after it's all over, or members of the public have sorted it out, then we look serious and take a few notes, (not too many because it creates too much paperwork). Anyway Tony Blair and the TV presenter Sir Ian Blair have told us not to catch too many people in case we make a politically incorrect arrest that would offend Cherie, and God Forbid help to put up the crime figures.
