A physical agility test is part of the hiring process. You should be able to contact the department to find out what is required on the test.

If you can pass the physical tests, then you can get in. But if you fail them, no. If you're fat and lazy and you manage to pass the physical part, you're in. There's no rules about maintaining a level of physical fitness once you're in.

The NYPDs test wasn't bad. You have to start of on one knee and get up without using you hands as if you holding a gun and cant use them to get up (which if you can't do that is sad) hop a six foot chain link fence, run up what adds up to be 3 flights of stairs, move a machine back and forth (can't describe it) which is somehow supposed to simulate wrestling someone. Then you run like 50 yards or so and drag a dummy and finally the trigger pull, all within 4:28 and with like a 5 lbs vest on.

That's how it was like a year and a half ago and I'm saying this all from memory so I could be wrong or it might have changed. The said under 3 is respectable and that's what I did without training at all. Check the website and they'll walk you through everything.

As long as you can pass the initial physical requirements and make it through the academy, you will be ok.

Trooper and beau have it right. Don't listen to people saying no you don't have to be athletic. You need to be in decent shape and past the physical test. The cops you see that are fat were probably hired a long long time ago. Or they were athletic and just gained weight while on the force.

No way kid, their are some guys on the force that cant even do 1 push up (just hustle in training)

I am 25 years old... I currently attend tci college of technology... my goal is to graduate... my plans for the future are to join the nypd... I wanna take the test and hopefully pass it.. have this one problem... I am overweight and I was wondering if that was a problem... I mean I know I gotta loose weight and I am working on it... I just think that for what I've been reading the requirements for the nypd are tooo much... I mean this is my dream I wanna become a police officer but to go trough soooo many tests makes you not even wanna join anymore... and I also hear out of 40000 applicants only 10000 get chosen... I mean that's not even half... should the nypd be so picky... this is my dream my goal and for me to get turned down is that right... also it takes forever after you take the test... I just need someone who can break it down to me and just really tell me the timeframe... thanks
