to be honest i never wear my seat belt, not even in a plane

I always wear a seat belt! The idea behind is not to cheat the police out of a fine but to stop me from flying through the windscreen at 70 mph in an accident.
Ja.

No, whats the point in not wearing a seatbelt and risking your life!

Oh, golly!

I always wear it for my own safety and not for the benefit of the police.

I never, ever don't wear my seatbelt. It is as natural to me to put it on as shutting the car door. I even put it back on after I've filled up with petrol at the supermarket, then drive only a few metres to the parking area.

No because I wear a seatbelt for my safety and that of the other passengers not because I have to by law. Unfortunately I've seen the results of someone not wearing a seatbelt and it ain't pretty!!

Yes because I want to live through any car accidents.

ornery and mean
Even if the police can't see into your car ... the laws of physics still apply.

If some other car crosses into your lane and hits your car [you did nothing wrong ... the other driver is 100% at fault] your chances of serious injury are much lower if you are wearing a seat belt.

Newton's first law of motion: "Every object in a state of uniform motion tends to remain in that state of motion unless an external force is applied to it. "

What external force would you like applied to your body while it's in forward motion after an accident?

A) The steering column of your vehicle?

B) The windshield of your vehicle, followed by objects outside of your vehicle.

C) Your seat belt.

Your car is moving forward ... an external force is applied that causes your vehicle to stop (in the form of another vehicle). Your body is in motion inside of the car. The car stops (from the external force), your body will keep moving until external forces use up the available kinetic energy. It's up to you ... the seat belt all by itself or the steering column and windshield of your car plus stationary object outside of your car (sign posts, other vehicles, power poles, pavement, etc).

I'll take choice "C" above ... let the seat belt absorb the kinetic energy of my forward motion. You do whatever you want!

it's for safety. if you don't think it's important, you are not paying attention.

McQ
Oh I hadn't thought of that - tell me - does it mean if you crash your car in the dark, no harm will come to you or your passengers? Pointless question from a proper pratt.

always wear it, nowt to do with police, just safety

It's nothing to do with hiding from the police, it's all to do with saving your life. The only reason there is an offence for the police to detect is because there are still idiots who don't. Having to extract the remains when someone hasn't brings it home to you.

I always wear one and insist that my passengers do too, even when technically it is their responsibility. Always have done, ever since I had some.

No. It's got nothing to do with the police and everything to do with standing a cat in hell's chance of surviving if I'm in a car crash.

I always wear my seat belt.
only time i don't is when reversing into my drive way, its pretty tight and get a better view if i turn right around.

i have seen what happens if you are not wearing a seat belt and have an accident.

its also not a good idea to have your windows wide open either.

i know of lots of people who have lost an arm due to the window being open and the car rolling due to an accident and amputating the arm.

to not wear a seat belt is foolish and if it is prov-en that you were not your personal accident part of the insurance should be null and void.

like if you ride a motor bike without a helmet.

Krazy Muddles
no that's silly. I always wear my seatbelt. It's there to save my life not for the police to tell me off.

totally agree with jason c.
i am convinced that my seat belt and air bags stopped me from snuffing it when i got pushed off the motorway at 70m.p.h.

a very hairy moment!

I make sure i wear it all the time cause its my own safety the police is there to enforce law but the most important thing is our safety

My Grain
I don't even go in the car without a seat belt. Known too many disaster stories.

To me, my seat belt makes good sense and keeps me reasonably safe. Its not something i even think about anymore. Putting on my seat belt has become part of starting the car.....the car goes no where until i have clicked it in.

Officer Matthew
I never take the chance. That one chance can kill me instantly. I a very serious about things like this. So to answer your question, no.

I always, always, always wear a seat belt although they drive me nuts and seem to want to throttle me. In my humble opinion, its even more important late at night because I reckon you're more likely to come across drink drivers and speed merchants.

All the time, my car beeps at me if i don't.
it's not worth the annoying noise!!!

I ALWAYS wear my seat belt. I've seen what can happen if you don't. I'd rather live through a car accident than have some other poor cop, firefighter, or EMT trot through the grass looking for pieces I left behind when I went through the windshield. Ever tried looking for an ear on the side of the roadway? Didn't think so. I have. It ain't pretty.

Nope, I always wear my seatbelt for my own safety, regardless of whether it is dark or not or whether there are police watching or not.

I was a little pig headed when the law 1st came out but in all honesty when you get older you do wise up in the end! i actually was charged with not wearing it some years ago!! But it's habit now and is A GOOD ONE...

Always do

I find it strange being sat in a car without a seat belt on.

I have been to many collisions where people have died and suffered serious injuries, some of which could have been prevented by wearing a seat belt.

I always wear my seat belt now. My father would never wear a seat belt because his friend burnt to death in a car and believed it was the seat belt that stopped him escaping.
