No these things have always been available ,I believe its all about attitude nothing more .People have lost respect for each other pure and simple. |

Nope, the biggest culprit is the fact that the children are not being raised with very good moral compasses. They are exposed to violence in video games, in the world in general, and are totally desensitized to it. They are encouraged to contact authorities if they are disciplined by their parents who are teaching them right and wrong. We have to look to ourselves and make a conscious decision to make the change and start raising the kids to know moral limits. |

No, I think drugs and alcohol are the crutches that people lean on in this time of materialism and consumerism. People feel inadequate because they can't buy the things the media tell them they need/ live the celebrity life that is promoted as such great fun. To repress their anxieties and forget for a while, people turn to the one thing they have always been able to escape through, drugs and alcohol. No matter what level of society you come from, there is pressure to be something you're not. We need to go back to basics and return to respect for one another as the most important thing man can achieve. |

No i would say terrorism and racial hatred! |

No, they are symptoms of even bigger problems looming in the background and often unspoken. We have hatred in numerous forms and every time you trace the root of someones drug and/or alcohol problems you can trace it eventually back to a form of hatred. |

There is a bigger problem, GREED, something that most suffer from at sometime in their life |

NO not by a long shot this society must learn how to raise children with respect of others understanding of life nature love of self family and nation and laws that govern it education is a must have not a choice we must teach all people to understand the need and importance of not using up and destroying or resources and environment teach all the need to look further than the next TV show and new movie coming up with there favorite actor or actress our society needs to re evaluate what is important to all as a united state not separate people platforms levels or parts this society needs the one nation under God put into place we need help to bring our society together It can come from our teaching training and raising our children for the better of all people and future of earth and mankind our society is only going to be and show what we put into our children just look |

they definatley play a part but i think bad parenting has a lot to with it as kids grow with with no respect and no consideration for others if their parents have not guided them and prsented them with the right attitude. This in essence lead to drug and alcohol abuse racial hatred and homophobia |

No, I believe its lack of parenting skills. We have become to 'lax' as a society and parents and their communities need to start putting an actual effort into raising their children properly. Its scary to think of my children's future with whats going on in the world today. |

Mental illness (not treated properly). Too many angry people. Frustration from not being able to find work that will pay the bills. Young people growing up without proper guidance and/or love, affection, and support from their families. |

Those two really top the chart. But l think its the moral degradation of society as a whole and the increasing number of broken families. lt has been proven by studies. Too bad most people dont do anything unless it gets out of hand. |

One of the issues in my state is that most people cannot afford health insurance and the ones who can, it is limiting on what health insurance will cover. Now in my opinion addictions are a medical condition and should be treated as a medical condition. There are soo many problem revolving around drugs and alcohol, but there are not many good rehabilitation programs available. If you go to the ER with an alcohol problem they can help you, but not if you have a drug addiction problem.
Now the majority of people with drug addictions are discovered upon injury or surgery and the individual is on medications. The Pharmaceutical companies charge people and insurances so much for medications, if a person cannot afford health insurance or keep their medication, they will find their "meds" elsewhere. It is a vicious cycle. Also people are not always properly weaned off of medications and many doctors are drug pushers and will keep a person on the medications for as long as possible.
Instead of locking people up for first time drug offense, they should use the money for rehabilitation programs that are comprehensive for people who cannot afford rehab or health insurance, instead of locking up people. But if a person had acquired rehabilitation and is a repeated offender, then lock them up and take care of their drug habit by providing drug rehabilitation programs in prison.
In my state, drug rehabilitation program costs $500 a month, and health insurance costs about the same. Most health insurance will not cover drug addiction programs. Also it costs $28,000 a year to house just one inmate. In my state there are about 48% of people locked up for drug addiction related situations. |

i I think it is weapons which are the biggest culprit to society. Bombs, Guns etc all were made to kill people
what is the point? |

Illegal Drugs more than alcohol because the taking of drugs will distort judgement by definition. Alcohol is legal and may be used theraputically and socially without problem by most. FOr those that cannot, help is available.
TO your point, these are catylysts and not causes. Depresssion, economic hardship, hopelessnes, abusive relationships are not caused by these but they will intensify the effects. |

No, these are symptoms rather than cause. You might look at consumerism, very poor diet, poor education, poor parenting, etc. There are several major issues with western society. Alcohol and drugs form a small part compared to the general trend of rot. |

No the people who blame alcohol and drugs are the biggest problems there people who are unable to take responsibility for there own actions And there ruining America because to them its always someone Else's fault "boohoo Jack Daniels made me drive into to that house and run over that kid ,boohoo McDonald's made me a fat pig please feel sorry for me" you see its the blame-rs and the "perpetual victims" that are ruining society |

Nope.
Why do people grow up and turn to those things?
Thats the real question.
Is it because they don't feel self worth?
Is it because the public education system failed them?
Is it because getting drunk and stoned every day of your life is cheaper that going to a 4 year college?
Or maybe they were treated badly growing up, and cannot afford a therapist..
Our childhoods and childhood education defines who we become, how we look at ourselves, etc. All of our problems as a society start in childhood. We as a society need to focus on our children. They are the future of this country.. and this world. |

Nope. I do both of them. I'm a productive member of society.
Poverty, poor education and bad parenting is to blame for most things - desperate people will render desperate deeds.
Week people will get addicted to anything....shopping, gambling, religion.... there are many things more dangerous than drink and drugs......but they don't help when people are unable to use them sparingly |

People are the biggest problem in society today...attitudes towards each other respect for each other...drugs and alcohol are just excuses offered up by some of the people who have made our society the perilous place it is by allowing abusers of substances to cast off any responsibility for their actions and blame anybody else that they can! |
