In a perfect world, they would be. However, we do not live in a perfect world, and police officers are human beings as well. So, no - not all police officers are honest, the same way not all preachers are honest.

It is statistically impossible to have a group of people that large and have all of them be honest.

I would have to say the vast majority are honest, of course there are exceptions - NOPD is notorious for its crooked cops.

As a former cop and someone who is married to a cop - I can honestly say I have never seen and officer behave in an inappropriate manner.

I do want to point out that it is legal for a cop to lie during an investigation to ferret out information. It is a common technique. That doesn't make them dishonest IMO. If they lie on the stand or in a ticket - then yes that is dishonesty.

No, but you have to operate under the assumption that they are, because I cannot think of many situations more dangerous and pitiable than not being able to trust the people whose JOB it is to protect the people. This is why I support the death penalty for crooked cops.

no.. for a good example get the book called Rotten to the Core by Martin Yant. It has the dirty lowdown on some of the police officers in my hometown. Very interesting book. You may find it at your local library.

ALL, no. Most YES. By most I'd say that in the nation (USA) at least 97 - 98% ARE honest.

No, unfortunately they are not all honest. I think that it is a combination of things like too many dumb *** criminals get off simply because they claim to not understand something when they really do or get off with a slap on the wrist for a pretty serious offense, people who diss cops all the time, and those who are dishonest, and become cops to be able to cover up what they are doing, which is what I think the problem is in Louisiana--- just a bunch of extortionists who became cops to be better able to control the danger of discovery factor. After all, who's gonna arrest 'em if they are the cops?

Of course not. I once knew an officer who was shooting heroin until he got busted in the apartment building I was managing. To talk with the guy he was clean cut and a really teriffic person.
