First I would like to respond to kc v. Cigarretes are a gateway drug, but is there any mention of that in your statement? No. And about your pilot being high or your taxi drive being or cops, think about what your saying. The same thing could be said about beer. How many times do you hear about a doc drunk during a surgery? Its just complete nonsense. There is also a comment talking about how people will just grow their own and not pay taxes. You know you can brew your own alcohol, but how many people do you see doing this instead of buying budweiser? I wish it was legalized but i highly doubt it will be because people keep fighting weed as if its worse than tobacco or alcohol (even though no one has ever died on cannabis compared to how many people die to beer & cigs)

Its not totally harmless..due research, but I think its no worse than alchol and should be legalized. But who is to say that legalized, government regulated, FDA approved pot will be as good as illegal street pot.mmmmm ..can we grow our own...probably not if its legalized. It will be like cigarettes.

It would be smart and we have a pot smoking governor but there are too many old fogie republicans in this state who will never let that happen.

I think the response saying California legalized marijuana is inaccurate. I believe the true statement to be California legalized medical marijuana use.

Many misunderstand and blame law enforcement for marijuana being illegal. The cops are only doing the job the laws provide. So if the marijuana laws change...so be it!

I'd rather not sit here and discuss all the medical pro's and con's as we all know them. Suffice it to say...even if marijuana were legal...I'd still not want to smoke it...I'd rather get high on doing the things I like rather than getting a drug induced high.

Will legalization cure our countries financial woes...I don't think so. Legalization may help provide revenue through taxation however, more money will be spent for medical issues associated with the results of smoking.

Lets say we legalize marijuana...if it is a gateway drug because they want to find a bigger or better high, you have to contend with the fact that more people will become hooked on another potentially addictive drug and still resort to stealing, pawning, or using what little incomes to buy more dope. On the other hand...yes...most will probably be happy with just the marijuana.

What about those irresponsible smokers who get a quick high on the way to work...wreck their car and kill another person on the roadway...better yet...I hope it's not your pilot about to fly you to your summer vacation or your heart surgeon preparing to do your heart transplant.

As a consumer, I have the right to the best services purchased without concern for getting ripped off because my professional representative being high and making irrational decisions.

I got it....since marijuana is legal....all the cops can get high before work and make bad judgement calls and just shoot all the violators!

If government could insure responsible use and not MISUSE of the product...I don't have a problem with what people do in the privacy of their own home as long as it's not against the law or infringing upon my rights.

The main problem I have is all the problems I've seen in person that are a result of marijuana and other illegal drug use yet have those who think there's nothing wrong with it try to tell me what I've seen is not related to smoking weed!

I hope they do too, because then you will finally learn and understand that you can't levy a tax on a weed that grows in nearly every climate and expect people to pay for it when they can produce it in secret and dodge the tax.

The projections on potential revenue are based on the assumption that the tax will be paid; since it is easier to grow marijuana and not pay the tax, I doubt it will be paid.

The economic benefits, would be comparable to when prohibition of alcohol was lifted.

People tend to forget, because most weren't alive at the time...alcohol used to be illegal.... and people who drank were criminals who, when caught, went to jail !

Of course, nowadays, it's very normal to have a couple beers on the front porch now and then...nobody points a finger at you for doing so...it's considered a birthright !

Prohibition of alcohol facilitated a lot of bad things in our society at the time,...such as organized crime, that resulted in hundreds of murders, kidnapping, exthortion, bribery of public officials.... It was a complete mess, and the war on alcohol eventually lost out. After legalization, alcohol quickly became a staple of entertainment establishments, restraunts, and social gatherings of all kinds... producing revenue, reducing crime, and creating millions of jobs.

I truly believe Obama mentioned it because he wanted to keep the younger liberl community interested.
