Do you think it's right for a Policeman to be in the KuKluxKlan?
|
In our city, which is very small, there is a policeman who is in the KuKluxKlan. Everyone knows about it but no one does anything. I think this is VERY wrong. He is morally corrupt. It really makes me sick and he is a disgrace to our town. He's worked on the force for about 15 years and I think that's why no one says anything. Is there anyone out there who knows the correct people to call to solve this problem? Remember, EVERYONE in the city knows about it, including the city manager and mayor.

I don't agree with anything about the Ku Klux Klan. But, we do live in a free country and everyone has the right to believe what they want. |

that is a hard one...even the GOV wont prosecute a KKK member...even when there is a law about public racism....they still hold rallies. |

You must live in the same part of the country where I grew up. That's why I left there at the age of 18 and never looked back. That's the only advice I can give you. As you say, everybody is in on it, everybody in power accepts it, if you try to do something about it you would probably just "disappear". Get the h-e-double-hockey-sticks out of there is my advice. |

the police are the worst hate group there is. the kkk looks like the shriners compared to the police. it is only natural that members of the worst hate group to ever exist, the police, should be members of a lesser group like the kkk. you are worrying about the wrong thing. what you should be worrying about is the fact that bigots can join the police force and get a license to kill and a lifetime supply of bullets. 99% of the population of georgia are klansmen. most of these people are just big talkers. but all police officers in america are dangerous thugs that kill anyone they see as too different. if bigotry really bothers you, divorce your husband and move away from georgia immediately. but dont come to florida, we dont want you here. |

I'm not a klan member or a skinhead, but I feel that he should be left alone. He is out there doing his job to defend all people, regardless of color. He is also out there upholding the constitutional rights that everybody has. The same constitutional rights that gaurantee the right to freedom of speech and freedom of expression. The klan is an outspoken bunch of bigots that have every right to exist under our constitution. As long as he doesn't break the law while being a member and still adheres to the oath that he swore to protect and to serve, he should be left alone. People don't have to like him or like his beliefs, but as long as he is professional and does his job, it is nobody's business. |

being in an organized club like the KKK is not illegal. Some of their practices may cross legal lines. But this is America and its not illegal to say, "White Power".
I also dont think its right for a peace officer to be in any organized club that prides its race and degrades others-I dont think he can be fair if someone of a race he doesn't care for, breaks the law. He may use 'extra force' or his badge to intimadate other races. Too bad for the townspeople.
I think you could write a letter to your state's senator and express your feelings. But if you make statements like, "he's morally corrupt" you have to be able to back it up. I mean, saying he's in the KKK is not enough. If you've heard him make degrading remarks about one's race, maybe you could bring that up.
If nothing happens, at least you have spoken your mind. Maybe get a couple hundred people to sign the letter to show your senator you are not alone. |

While I find it distasteful, and I would be surprised if his department would like the noteriety of having a Klansman, who is supposed to protect and serve EVERYONE, there is not much that can be done. Constitutionally, he has freedom of association. As long as he doesn't bring his "KKK Beliefs" into the performance of his duty, the government entity he works for can't just get rid of him. There are processes by which it could be done. His association(KKK) and profession(Law Enforcement) are intellectually, morally, ethically, diametrically opposed to one another. If I were his Chief, I would take him off the street and make sure that the only duty he performed could NOT offer any opportunity for racial/ethnic bias, or the perception, by the public the department serves, of any such bias. |

Is the KKK illegal in the US?
If they are then obviously it is wrong for a policeman to be involved in any illegal activity.
If they it isnt illegal in anyway then as long as the policeman doesnt apply his personal beliefs to the job, then there is no problem.
I dont agree with the KKK or its beliefs, but I support its democratic right to have whatever beliefs they want as long as they dotn affect their job or other people. |

a very touchy situation by moral standards no one should be in the kkk but some people have no respect for other people if an inmate goes to jail and is labeled in any manner of this kind sometimes they get abused by jailers just because they have power be careful who you talk to it could open an awful can of worms find someone that you can trust to lead you to others that can help and protect you when you voice what you think is right or wrong you probably need to contact someone unbiased from another town or state and that way it is made public enough to help protect you good luck my prayers are with you it is very courageous of you just to care enough to get involved |

Need to be careful accussing someone of being a Klansman. Without hard proof, the accused can sue for defamation. The burden of proof is on the accusser. |

His participation in an organization on his own time should be his own business as long as it does not affect his job performance...the same as if he belonged to any other hate group like the naacp or nation of islam. |

That is so wrong. What can be done? I just watched a really good movie that explains a lot! " Crash", have you seen it? It's a wonderful movie. You should watch it. It will give you a whole new perspective on the subject. |

Write to your congressman and your state senator. Contact Internal Affairs in the closest city and file a report. Call the newspapers and tell your story anonymously. Call the FBI hot line and report him. You can contact them on the Internet. First thing you should do is make sure you are right and have at least one other credible person to back up your story. Good luck. |
