Do you think it isn't fair that americans have to wait till they are 21 to drink?

Its totally unfair as I got arrested last october just had turned 18 in july of last year. I got arrested got minor in possesion of a beer in my own yard due to a newbie cop who thought I needed a kick in the butt so to speak, but my parents knew I was drinking. I whole heartedly agree that if you can go into the army at 18 and vote then you should be able to drink. 18 is the age that makes you a legal adult according to the law so why can't you drink....it's because of so many teens that are not responsible and more teens that anyone over 21 will get into a car and dirnka drive and are not responsible drivers according to statistics so they made the law to try and lower the statistics on that and I personally think it is not working because whoever is going to drink is going to drink regardless of what the law is and regardless of age there are still some people out there that are not responsible enough to even drink and no matter the age there still will be dumb ars people to get out and drink and drive.

Not at all,because here in the U.S.so many young kids have fast n expensive cars.If the drinking age was any lower,to many fatalities and injury's would result due to drunk driving accidents.Auto wrecks for persons 18 and below are the number one cause of death in America for this age group...tom science

When I turned 18, the state had lowered the drinking age to 18. How cool was that? I guess there was a markedly increase in accidents and fatalities so when I turned 22 they changed it back to 21. I was lucky all the way around. The point is young adults are not as responsible and they get behind the wheel. They don't think it can happen to them.

Here is the irony of having the age 21 be the eligible age to drink. This government sees you as fully responsible to drive at 16 and you have the discretion to forfeit your life and freedom to the military at age 18. If they think that a person is responsible enough to control a vehicle that can kill numerous people at age 16 and that one is mature enough to know that they are throwing their life away in the military at age 18, it makes no sense that 21 has to be the age in which someone is legally allowed to drink. Either increase the eligible age for driving, voting and joining the military to 21, or reduce the age in which a person can drink. There should be some consistency in the law.

By the way this is not coming from an overly anxious teenager who just wants to drink early. I am 29 years old. I just want to see fairness and common sense exercised in the law.

If you want to use the phrase "(if I can die for my country why can't I purchase alcohol)" why don't you join the military and then you can use the phrase.

Lets see- the UK has banned guns, is pretty clueless about dental care, and car ownership is a PRIVLIDGE not a RIGHT. The UK does have a good public transportation system, however.

Americans NEED cars, and I've seen too many people drink and drive, then die at high speeds- ask Mel Gibson if you don't believe me

You can get married here at 16....but not drink until 18! To be honest.....you have drinking more under control than the uk....we have kids as young as 13 with an alcohol problem. We have binge drinking culture...so I think 21 is about right. Come to the big towns/cities in the UK on a Friday/Saturday night...and you will see the drinking culture here.

Is that a long time to wait? If it was 18 they would want 16, if it was 16 they would want 14. I don't think society is quite ready for drunken 18 year olds in fast autos. At 21, you may have a spouse and an occupation, hopefully a more responsible person.

I agree, I think at 18 most people are old enough to be able to make up their own minds about drinking.

I would like to see all states switch the drinking age to the driving age and driving age to the drinking age. A sixteen year old with a beer is a lot less scary to me than a sixteen year old with a car.

When you have an active duty military ID card, you should be able to drink at 18. It used to be that way in florida.

Surely you can find other things to fill up your time while you wait to turn 21. All of us over-21-ers waited and survived. You will, too. Here's an idea for something to fill up your time with. Go and volunteer your time with Child Advocates or Big Brother/Big Sister organizations. Help other folks who deal with REAL issues of unfairness in this life.

Before you know it, you'll be 21.
