Do you think its fair that going to court for ONE gram of marijuana costs over $900 dollars in court fees (VA)

Do you think its fair that going to court for ONE gram of marijuana costs over $900 dollars in court fees (VA)

When the street value is $10 dollars. Sure the person learns the lesson, but they do things like that just because they CAN. And they say the government doesn't profit from pot being illegal.

Its either that or option B. Which is going to jail. Its amazing, people forget that marijuana is a PLANT.

if you've got a problem with the law, it's not your job to break it, it's your job to pester the **** out of your elected representatives until they decriminalize it. And if you just can't keep your hands off the green, then go someplace it's legal.

Of course it's not FAIR. But it's the law. I think it's a load of crap, but if you want to change things, breaking the law isn't the way to do it. Vote, march, write, and use other legal means to change the law. Then....smoke all ya want.

Babe
The profit from it being illegals is nothing like the profit they will make if it is legal.

i agree its just a way to make us part of the system .
it was 1st criminalized to get rid of Mexicans crossing the border it was associated with them so lets make a law where we can get rid of them its stayed and the use for generating revenue i person growing a plant gets 7 years but some one robbing a store with a gun gets 3 -5 whats up with that ?
they should just leave us alone and start arresting the drunk drivers who flood our road ways every day

Getting in trouble isn't a convenience fee... They are doing their best to make sure you don't do it again... If they made you pay $10 you would continue to do what you are doing right?

Yes, I absolutely do think it's fair because of the costs that are associated with having to pay the people who enforce those laws! O.K., so that pot only cost YOU $10, but what about the people who sold it to you? Chances are HIGH that they are committing fraud & tax evasion with their CASH SALES & that are not contributing to the system that is currently set up in order to run a country. People need to contribute their fair share & street sales don't help anyone but the person who is doing the selling! Add to that the simple fact that the marijuana you purchase on the street has no guarantee that it will be safe for consumption. This is an UNSTABLE PRODUCT that can take your life if someone decides to put a toxic chemical in your little $10 bag of weed! WAKE-UP!
THEY NAMED IT CHRONIC FOR A REASON!!!

Nothing fair about it.

Did anybody force you to buy it? Obey the law and you won't have to pay the fine.

you should have went to jail and spend some time there thinking on what job you should have gotten instead, also

jabroni
I don't think it's fair. They should have at least charged you $2000.00.

Like you said, Marihuana is just a plant. NOT the best dope they can roll, actually. I have seen numerous hallucinogenics and rushers out in nursery stores. The thing about the Marihuana is not something I can understand anyone could place himself in that amount of court fees and hassles for.

But on the other hand, if the town keeps those fees reasonable and low, how will our hard working cops be able to have a free cruiser with free gas, a free K-9 dog with all expenses paid, meal allotments and all the overtime they want to work at time-and-a-half rate?

When you choose to break the law, you also choose your consequences. Some lessons are more costly than others. The key is, DID you learn a lesson? If not, and if you choose to break the law again, then don't cry, "Unfair!" when the consequence turns out to be even more costly.

Poison ivy is a plant, too.
I don't recommend smoking it.

**EDIT**
The law says I can't drive 45 in a 35mph zone. If I CHOOSE to break that law, I CHOOSE to get a ticket... pay a fine, and court costs as well. End of story. You know the law. You know the consequences for breaking that law. Choose to break the law. Choose to pay the consequences. Nothing unfair about it. End of story.
