Do you think police officers are entitled to the same respect as regular human beings?

Do you think police officers are entitled to the same respect as regular human beings?
|
Police treat us with little to no respect:
racial profiling
planting evidence
beating civilians
shooting civilians
etc...
All officers who are about to reply with some insulting resentment should just save your breath. I'm only going to laugh at your responses.
Also, do you think it's alright to fight back against the police?

They definitely are because they too are regular human beings (if there is such a thing??)
.......the real question is who is
POLICING the POLICE?
They are given way, way too much power, and because they are human, and human nature dictates that we will do what we can get away with, they abuse that power, .................now don't get me wrong Peacebypeace, I don't really care much for police officers and would be mortified if one of my children grew up and wanted to be one. I think they are for the most part arrogant, manipulative, racist, and controlling individuals, but I don't think we can get away with giving them "less" rights than as you say "regular human beings. Frankly, I don't know what can be done about them. They do need to be held accountable for their actions, and I don't see much of that going on in our society. I wouldn't fight back against them, that would be a loose / loose situation wouldn't it? Unless you are terribly wealthy and can afford great representation. They seem to be allot like wolves, they travel in packs, if you fought against some, some others may seek you out and do you harm, sad how we are not safe from the very people who presumably are doing a job they want to do because they claim to want to help people. What really motivates someone to seek this kind of position??? I have to wonder! |

First of all, police officers are regular human beings, just with a higher level of authority. The great majority of police officer do not participate in any of the activities that you listed (besides maybe shooting civilians when it is warranted). For the ones that do, a few bad apples should not spoil the bunch. You can not place an entire group of hundreds of thousands of officers nation wide into one foolish generalization.
Go ahead and try to fight back, have fun in prison. |

Who are you going to call if someone breaks into your house and threatens your family with a gun? Your local baker? I don't think so.
They risk their lives so you don't have to. For every account of a crooked cop shooting a civiliarn, there are 5,000 others who would dive in front of a bullet for that same person.
If you aren't smart enough to separate the news from reality, then you don't deserve any respect yourself. |

I suppose you could call me a bit biased, seeing as how I went to a High School specializing in Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice, and also have a long line of family members working as Police Officers. I have this to say...Granted, Police Officers have had their fair share of controversy that has caused the general public to look down upon them (Rodney King, the Houston Crime Lab, etc...). The very nature of their job is both physically demanding and mentally taxing: it is often pure hell on a marriage, and many Police Officers resort to suicide after retirement because of the amount of stress they encountered during their tenure.
However...Not all Police Officers are crooked, and not all of them are the clean, rolemodel superheroes some make them out to be. There have obviously been cases dealing with abuse of power, but this lies solely within the individual. You cannot place the blame solely on the uniform rather than on the individual. I believe that the police are used to dealing with people who are verbally abusive, and are used to the lack of respect they encounter from some people.
I support local police for the most part, but in no means do I condone the abuse of power or corruption that some officers exercise. I believe that any person who is willing to commit his own life to protecting and serving the general public is a noble individual, and should be treated as such. |

The badge of office worn by law enforcement officers always deserves respect, and it would be a good idea to remember that when dealing with law enforcement - you do not have to respect the individual officer as respect is earned and he or she as an individual may not be deserving of respect, however the badge of office should be respected no matter what. Not all law enforcement officers are corrupt, in fact very few are. If you must wear the "I hate all cops" hat, then next time you are in a horrific car accident, or someone starts shooting indiscriminately at people in a mall somewhere near you or some other terrifying incident occurs where you need the assistance of an officer just remember what hat you are wearing. |

There should be more and they should be paid better, maybe not every tactic used is friendly, but im pretty sure they beat up more bad guys that will rape you than not, either way it just another job of the millions available in this county |

Not many people are willing to take a job the requires a bullet proof vest and a gun and to put themselves in the middle of a gun fight when everybody else is running from it. I'll make you a deal all you guys that think cops are that bad lets put your names on a list and when you get robed, rapped, shoot or stabbed call somebody else!
Notice you weren't insulted by the people you just slammed I wonder who deserves respect and who doesn't |

i am not a cop but I know a few cops mostly family men who put on a unifrom to stop what u are saying not the other way around, even if police corruption is at an all time high where u live that dosent mean that every cop is corrupt or crooked, and if a cop was ever found guilty of such a crime as stated above they would be punished accordinaly,
There are some amazing cops out there u just have to find them for example take the two towers incident in new york a lot of police officers were killed including a K9 dog but u didnt see cops planting evidence on bodys or shooting anyone in sight or beating civillians or racial profiling as colored people escaped these men gave their lives to save others one of the greatest sacraficces u could make would u have gone in to try and save someone?
The police are trained for this, this is what they do best so u may find police corruption in places but thats not what police usually do, would u try andd help someone in need someone that u loved even? All good and proper police officers should be commended for their services that they render every day and in some countries putting their lives on the line
And al corrupt cops sould be punished ITS NOT COPS WHO ARE CORRUPT ITS THE INDIVIDUAL, some corrupt officers may get on the force and do illgal things they ARE NOT police officers but have the appearence of nice criminals like i said before its not about cops here its abbout the individual or the human factor.
U have to define between good cops and criminal cops any criminal cop will eventualy be found out by public allugations, or a police watchdog etc depending on what country u live in if any one knows of a cop doing illiagal activities then they should report it and fight it in court or something no one is above the law especially cops remember that it is the individual not the majority
I hope I have made my point. |

Yes. I expect more from a cop, because they have authority to even kill us, and abuse it.
Should they be held at higher standards? Heck yes! What to do when you fight back and they cover for each other? Just keep at it. Otherwise, they keep threatening us, and they win |

I would like to see you spend just one day as a police officer and see what it's like to put your life on the line. The police deal with thugs, rapists, pedophiles, thieves, and crackpots such as yourself. You are the one who deserves no respect. |

i'm not a police officer but i played one in my high school play. my part was to walk on stage and say "looks like foul play to me" and then i just stood there for about two minutes and said "where were you when the lights went out, mrs kovack". and my voice kept changing and every body was laughing at me because i sounded like mr. haney on green acres. that is the reason i don't like school plays any more to this day. |

Of course they should not.
Once they put on that uniform, they voluntarily waive any respect.
When you are being oppressed it is normal to struggle against the instrument of your repression. |

you have to be some kind of twisted sadist to want to be one in the first place. I dont trust any of them. why is it thast whenever there is a big drug bust, the papers will say that " million dollars worth of cocaine was seized, along with 3000$ in cash?" How stupid do they think we are? those crokked cops are pocketing the cash, and we all know it. Theiving rotten scoundrels, i say. |

Don't give me this mawkish deal about how cops are human and there's a few bad apples..etc. e dry cop who turns away from another who brutalizes people is just as guilty and not deserving of any respect. These Nazi thugs forget they serve the people and not the racist politicians. If your a cop and you don't get that you're a moron. Lastly why is it we have more honorable military and veterans then cops...it's. Because cops no nothing a out the true meani.g of freedom. They'd rather wipe their added with our rights. In the end cops will all swealter in he'll for all the evil they condoned. |
