There is not a single recorded case of a taser device causing death, not one. All cases where there have been deaths have usually revealed some other factor the was more critical in terms of the outcome.
**Tasers are not for use against firearms**
Firearms are for use against firearms.
Yes we have armed response units, but their attendance would be unecessary if local Officers had a taser option in most cases: e.g. knives, swords etc.
A taser is the first device that allows for control to be obtained from a distance of 21 feet and more importantly RETAIN that control. It is 100% effective when both barbs hit, and a single Officer can maintain control of an offender whilst waiting for assistance to restrain and transport.
CS Spray is notorious for cross contamination of Officers and members of the public.
Pepper spray is effective only when sprayed directly into the eyes.
Batons are only effective at very close range, and easily become a weapon to be used against an Officer.
Yes the 'red dot' is a nice deterrent at the moment, but after a bit of time, this effect will be numbed.
Taser is a 21st Century solution to 21st century problems. Lets be honest, if we had never seen batons before, the idea of introducing a metal pole to strike people with would be ludicrous for Police Officers.
Personally, I believe that mandatory prison sentences of several years should be used in ALL cases where; the offender stuggled during arrest, attempted to escape or assaulted any Officer. This would have a much further reaching effect, as a majority of people that end up fighting with the police, have fought with them before. Take them away, you take away the need for further armament. |

Defiantly.
The taser has made law enforcement so much more safe for the officers AND the suspects.
Generally the threat of being tasered is enough to gain compliance in most situations.
((Before people complain too much about police using their tasers, know that as a part of the training that police do, they all get hit with a taser)) |

The Taser is designed and is supposed to be a means of non-lethal force. The Taser is needed and is a good tool for LEO's. In the past two years, our dept might have tased 5 people... but if the need arises, the Taser is available. |

No I think that anyone that resists arrest needs to be shot. It would only improve the gene pool. |

?

Yes. They have made apprehending criminals much safer for the cops and virtually eliminated the need to use batons and clubs, which are more dangerous. There have been some people who could not tolerate the "tase" , but hey, tough sh*t. Overall they have moved law enforcement ahead in the apprehension task. Only people that think that it is ok to fight cops don't like them. |

Josh if people researched at all this site would be shut down. But anyway people have died from the use but not as many that have being beaten by the batons. It's much safer for the police and suspects, they also have cameras on them to insure they are being used when appropriate. |

Great. The police should have every protection available from violent yobs and scum who should be held to account for what they do and also be in fear of the police. These yobs are a particular mindset and need to know that the odds are stacked against them. Better a police officer safe than a knife carrying drunken slob of a git who cares nothing for his fellow man. |

Absolutely. They are the safest way to eliminate a threat for both the police officers and for the subjects. The voltage that a taser gun puts out is far below the safety levels. |

Well, keep in mind before tasers existed, your only options were getting shot or beat to a pulp.
People complain and complain about tasers, but they forget that it saves lives.
Do a little more research before you ask a question about things you know little about. |

Labour making another great decision based on limited thought of consequences,as they have done for the past 11 years. That's why burglars are more entitled to your house contents than you. |

Why do people feel that for some reason firearms officers are magic? They are exactly the same people who have done the same job as every other police officer who have chosen to specialise in firearms. Most non firearms officers will express a desire to have nothing to do with guns, thats why they are not firearms officers. The government would not allow a police officer authority to use taser without them having to go through the same training as a firearms officer has.
Now think of the scenario. You have a male in a high street with a knife. There are other people around and this male is obviously highly emotional. Police officers in this scenario could request firearms assistance, they will typically take around 20 minutes plus to get there and thats if they are given authority to respond. Contrary to popular belief firearms officers are not typically used in knife related calls, there are simply too many off this type of call. So lets increase the pressure. Actions have to be taken now. The male is too aggressive to be left to continue so, even if the magic firearms officers are responding there is no time to wait.
You have two options.
A. Beat the male male to death with a metal pole (in a threat to life situation the officers wouldnt be hitting the arms or legs it would be lethal head strikes!)
B. Tase them.
You choose which is the more humane option. |

alot of people have already died from them.
but if people would not resist arrest then there wouldnt be a need for them. |

No I don't think ordinary PCs should have tasers, leave it to the armed response units otherwise there will be a tragedy. |

to right they should have them, and get rid of the human rights protection committee to. Let them blast a few of this knife wielders and gun carriers, make these criminals respect the law, you soon start screaming 999 or 911 when your the victim. |

Yes, it should be in their armoury, I also believe we should seriously consider having a fully armed Police force as on the continent, at least we wouldn't have to pay the EU fine for not having them armed. |

this is not about gun crime. this is about crowd control. using them on political protesters. they have also introduced stun sticks....cattle prods by any other name...this government are growing more and more sinister by the day.......they are just EU federation Nazis building a huge police state from the ruins of our country. they have dis armed the British public, and are now arming the ordinary police. what does that spell out to you? they have seen the anti government protests in Iceland. and they are expecting the same here. if they start to use cattle prods and tasers on British protesters they are going to cause rioting like they have never seen before. |

NO THEY SHOULDN'T!
It ups the ante. The reason why we have a low rate of gun ownership is that criminals do not need to carry guns, because the police are largely unarmed. Criminals probably carry knives instead, admittedly, but if the police had tasers, it would only encourage gun use amongst criminals.
There is also the risk of tasers being used against the innocent and there have been some cases of deaths attributed to tasers.
Yes, of course you can be beaten by a baton, or incapacitated with pepper spray - the police can already take people out, but do they need tasers as well? |

II have been tasered and it is freaking awful, scary. The element in the police force who want to be Rambo are to freaking quick to fire guns or tasers or bash someone. In answer to your question,no they shouldn't have any weapon because soon enough people will give them a taste of their own medicine! |
