Do you think shooting burglars is right?

Spawnee
Is taking anyone's life right? be it state sactioned as in the case of capital punishment or going to war, or in the case of homicide, or in the case of self-defence (be it "reasonable force" or otherwise). Personally, I am glad that in this country the UK "reasonable force" is accepted by the courts.

Cutedervish
Well, you see a burglar, you got a gun. Gun is your only protection, what arae you gonna do, look at them? Until they rub you and kill you? figure out the rest.....

Nic T
Yes, at least in certain situations. I had a 17 year old kid break in to my apartment one night, and confronted him with a gun as he was going through some drawers. I told him to stop, and that I had called the police. He had ground to retreat to the door, but instead choose to advance toward me, and I shot him. Unfortunately, I killed him. But the fact still remains, if he had not be stealing, it would have never happened.

Yes. Man breaks into your home you should protect your family. As a father I could not take the chance of one hurting one of my kids so the choice is simple. I'd rather be judged by 12 than carried by 6.

If someone breaks into my house then, as far as I am concerned, he leaves his "human rights" and the protection of the law at the door. If he is breaking the law then he cannot be entitled, at the same time, to the protection of the law. If I had a gun then, yes, I would shoot him. Far better than taking the risk of asking him politely what his intentions are!

The answer plain and simply is YES. A burlar is likely not there to just rob your house. If they catch you expect bodily harm to yourself and your family.

If you shoot them in your house make sure you kill them. If they survive or get away they can turn around and sue you for shooting them. So, if you're gonna do it, do it right. If you shoot them and they go through a window, pick their *** up and throw them back into your house.

All these morons talking about shooting people is wrong is the reason for so many innocent people getting robbed and hurt in their own homes. Fight fire with fire and protect yourselves and your family. Dead burglars don't become repeat offenders and they can't come after you again.

if in self defence then yes ... or would you rather be shot first?

Under the law in every state in the US, you can use lethal force if your life is in immediate danger and/or suffer serious bodily harm.

Some states like Texas, do not necessary require your life to be in imminent danger or suffer serious bodily harm.

So, what do I think of someone shooting a burglar? There is only one person to blame and only one guilty party, the burglar.

Sylvia C
Yes. If I had a gun I would shoot them without compunction. They should not be in my house.

yeah ,just shoot them in the kneecaps, that way the ycant attack you and they arent dead, just never be able to have a 'knees up' again. i no, very bad joke.

TomT
Do you think burglars taking your property is right? If I catch one in my house, his a** is mine and in a few seconds that same a** will be cold dead. I have that right in my state and if you don't its because you live in a blue state that cares more about criminals than victim's safety.

mike h
Yes it is right, and to all the other hand wringing liberals here, it is not over the top.

These people have entered your home uninvited, they would have no compunction about harming you or your family. Therefore they should lose all rights as a law abiding citizen (including that to life) the second they enter your property.

You should assume that they will harm you or your loved ones if you do not stop them and use any and all means that YOU deem necessary to stop them. If that means killing them, so be it.

They made the choice to violate your rights and territory. They made that choice of their own free will. You did not make it. Therefore any consequence of that action is of their own doing.

If this was allowed, how fast do you think burglaries would stop happening?

Andy
Yes.
If somebody breaks into my home, They've just withdrawn their right to the protection of the law, Because are they not breaking the law they expect to protect them?
If they're trying to steal the things I've worked for or threatening my loved one I'd have no qualms about shooting them. And if they died as a result of me shooting them well tough they should have though about that before they broke the law shouldn't they?.

All the do-gooding bleeding heart liberals will slate me for saying this but I don't care.

If he is posing a threat to you and your family, then yes I do feel it would be fair to shoot them even if only to injure them enough to keep them down untill the police got there, but in the uk we are not allowed to do anything. The government would rather he hurt one or all of the family and then put him in prison and pay for him to be educated and eat well. It is ridiculous. They can learn a trade in prison here and then come back out after a soft sentence and be given help to get housing and jobs.

Rek T
No....just shooting that's stupid. Always put 2 in the Chest and 1 in the head to make sure. Now if you want to be really mean you could shoot out his knees ...let him crawl around for a minute then put one in his head.

I think it's completely right, unfortunately I live in the U.K where the criminals have more rights than me. We should have a gun law over here as decent law-abiding citizens like me won't own a gun because we are worried about the consequences, but it doesn't stop some jumped up, snot nosed little b*****d getting his hands a on a gun in the U.K and using it to rob people, the criminals don't give a s**t about gun laws, so why can't we even things up a little. If the law was changed maybe these little s**ts would think twice about robbing me in the street or burgling my house because maybe, just maybe this victim might fight back and put a bullet in your A**. And before all you anti-gun idiots start kicking off, answer this question if someone broke into your house and held you at gunpoint and maybe battered or tortured your loved ones in front of you, if you had a gun, would you shoot?..... Of course you would, and if you say you wouldn't, you're a liar.
America have the right idea, at least over there the innocent are protected.

I've read many of the posts. If someone is breaking into your house you have no knowledge if their intent is to do bodily harm and it may be considered justifiable as you have reason to believe your life is in danger. In Kentucky, it is justifiable to shoot someone who is trying to commit arson on buildings on your property but not that of a neighbor. The only reason to ever shoot anyone is preservation of your life or your families and that goes for law enforcement as well.

In my opinion this is a rhetorical question.
In Indonesia the police arrest the burglar to save his life. The villagers and affronted will not be so kind.
