I say use them. Its less lethal (even less chance of a serious injury) than a gun or improperly used batton. Pepper spray, tear gas, battons, and even guns are not a sure thing to stop someone either. |

Anyone that has to have a taser used on them obviously is not too smart. Just follow the laws and the police orders and it won't happen! Yes they should be used but then again I think the use of guns is fine as well. There has to be some authority. |

Would you rather a taser was used to subdue a violent criminal or they just shot them? |

Absolutely. But if the people would do what they are told, the cops would not have to zap them. |

I think cops should carry puppies around with them so whenever they catch a mass murderer-rapist, they can just hand the criminal a puppy and maybe brew a pot of tea for them. Boy, wouldn't that just change their hearts and make them a valuable contribution to society?

Yer, there good in both amrica (WHO HAVE GUNS) and england where cops dont have guns... mainly because wat ur gonna do against some1 wielding a knife, u shouldnt shoot him or get close to him with a batton.
They dont kill that many people anyway, just those with heart problems and lots of those are frequent drug users. |

Yes. Netguns too! |

Tasers don't kill people. The autopsies for those who die always list other factors (drugs, alcohol, heart problems, etc), none of which is "being tased". Yes, tasers are an important tool for law enforcement. |

A taser has never been proven to actually be any significant factor in any death related to it's use. Taser international corporation has SUED and won every time a corner has ruled the taser as the cause of death. Over 70 lawsuits they have won and not lost yet. The taser does not produce enough electricity to kill a person, even with a pacemaker. If the taser was really dangerous, then why have hundreds of thousands of law enforcement officers taken the training hit from a taser and not one of them has died? The taser is a great tool, becuase it works on the body's ability to send and receive electrical pulses to the muscles and renders pain compliance at the same time. The other less lethal weapons officers have only work on pain compliance, and a person who is high or in a rage can fight through it. I have taken the full 5 second ride with the taser and I can safely say, I can't think of a better tool. It has saved so many injuries and reduced injury to suspects over 80% when depoyed with a department. |

The media and urban myths have greatly exaggerated the belief that tasers cause death. Most of the cases where people have died after being "tased", the suspect had underlying problems, such as drug use, heart problems, etc. Tasers do carry a lot of voltage but very low amps. The amperage is what will kill you. The benefits of tasers greatly outweigh the bad. Tasers have prevented injuries and saved a lot more lives than have been taken. Less than lethal shotguns (bean bag rounds) have caused death, also. But these are necessary tools in law enforcement. |

They should use their regular guns first, then taser them to make sure they're dead. |

They should use them. It may be better just to kill the repeat offenders |

If the lives of the public or police officers are being out at risk by an individual, such as someone brandishing a knife, then yes.

Its not even "Less than lethal".
The actual term is "LESS LETHAL"
Note the "Less", not "non" or "less than".
I don't carry for the sake of the bleeding hearts. I still break bones with my baton. The opponents of the taser say it's more humane. |

They aren't said to be NON-lethal, they are said to be LESS-Than-Lethal.
Yes, they've been ACCUSED of having killed a few people, but think about this: Years ago before Tasers were available, the only option police officers had in similiar situations was their firearms (which are said to be LETHAL).
So, think about this, would you rather people were stunned with a taser and ran the risk of being killed, or would you rather people got shot and ran the risk of bleeding to death? |

as long as they are used judiciously they are a much better alternative than a gun or even a club. over use and improper training are the cause of most of the deaths. there is a very small chance of it interfering with the cardiac cycle but hey, a baseball or punch to the chest could do the same thing. two little prongs beats a couple ounces of lead.
edit: mother hubbard would mean homely at worst, not ugly. |

better than guns. Police officers who carry tasers must first be tased themselves. You realize this right? |

Yes I do, better if that can stop someone than a bullet |

Taser Int'l has not been found guilty in one wrongful death suit-not one.
when you think about the risk police officers have, a taser is a useful tool in the performance of their jobs. |

The big lie is that tasers are lessening fatalities perpetrated by cops. That is NOT true. All tasers have done, is giving Law enfarcement the tool to hurt you more and police brutality is on the increase. |

They are considered a non-lethal weapon and in my opinion should be used in preference of guns if at all possible. Please provide a link to the deaths. |
