There is some corruption in law enforcement. And most agencies (at least out here in the midwest take it very seriously and will punish or even prosecute officers that violate the law).
In the age of the internet and 24 hour news, police misconduct is more widely televised. One incident a day may seem like a lot, until you figure...there are a million police officers in this country. The percentage is quite low.
If you compare law enforcement today to law enforcement 30 years ago. You will see that over the years corruption has drastically decreased. |

Some people are corrupt. Some corrupt people are police.
Overall, most police do what is necessary to be effective in doing their jobs. |

There are always going to be bad apples-but the vast majority of cops I've known (quite a few for some reason) are honestly good hearted and try to help.
They sure aren't in it for the pay! |

I think it depends on the cop. I don't think you can make a sweeping generalization here...there are both good cops and corrupt ones. |

there is corruption every where i'v known a few corrupt cops they were not big time bad, just a little bent, but i'v met a lot crooked panel beaters, mechanics, builders, painters the list is endless. It's just that a cop is in a position of trust ,its like someone taking money out of the till it makes it worse because you trust them to use it,what about the people that come out to fix your tv,i wish they would wear a mask at least that would be honest robbery. |

American cops don't take bribes like cops in other countries do. But they will lie for each other at the drop of a hat. |

I believe most want to serve and protect but some do let it go to their heads and end up putting a black-eye on the rest. The only way to deal with this is stiff and harsh punishment for those that abuse their positions of authority. |

I agree with "OFC X YRS"... if you dont want to pay a ticket... dont break the law.
Like I said before, the only people that dont like cops are the ones that are always in trouble. |

I think police are corrupt and can prove it. State tampering with states evedance and judges let them do it. I was charged with 30 years with zero physical evidance. Through a jury trial I won. It's a high dollar business run by threats and intimidations by officers and county attourney's office, and backed up by judges, forcing citizens into signing thereself in jail guilty or not. Why? because the county's all need paychecks and state officials need payed. Not just a little either. They get paid very good to TAKE your money. Plus the government pays them money they need that you pay in your state and federal taxes. Not very nice people are they. This is not spam. I am proof of all this. |

CHICAGO - The city has agreed to pay nearly $20 million to settle lawsuits filed by four former death row inmates who claimed they were tortured by Chicago police and wrongly convicted, an alderman said Friday.

Edit-edit:
One of America’s worst cases of drug-related police corruption occurred in California after an officer caught stealing eight pounds of cocaine from a police department's evidence locker turned on his fellow officers to get a reduced sentence. Known as the ‘Rampart’ Scandal, over a hundred convictions were overturned as police misconduct, ranging from the planting of evidence to “confessions” obtained through beatings was uncovered. Officers were indicted on corruption charges, including torture, murder, drug dealing, and framing innocent people. The unit's criminal behavior became known as the ‘Rampart Way,’ a term referring to a predominately poor, immigrant neighborhood in East Los Angeles patrolled - and during that time controlled -by the officers.

After the videotaped beating of African American motorist Rodney King, and the toxic ranting of Los Angeles police detective Mark Fuhrman, mainstream America has finally begun to address the question of police racism and brutality. But at the same time, there is mounting evidence of a nation-wide plague of police criminality. From San Francisco to New Orleans to Cleveland to Philadelphia to New York City, police are being indicted on charges of extortion, robbery, perjury, and weapons and narcotics trafficking. In city after city the old maxim that “the cops are the biggest gang in town” is truer than ever.
