Do they ****! They are good at one thing only and that's arresting drunks, when they have backup of about 20 other officers of course.
Read this, it's shocking - http://uk.news.yahoo.com/pressass/20080530/tuk-police-focus-on-soft-crime-6323e80.html |

I think the police do want to do their job as it should be as the majority love their job and signed up to catch criminals
However I think the government make it impossible for them to do a proper job as they set targets which the police concentrate on trying to meet instead of catching proper criminals. they also have too much red tape and paper work to do when they could be out on the street. we are too soft on criminals which cant make their job very easy. |

Stop whining. If you would like to see a corrupt, lazy, brutal and inefficient police force then go to South Africa.
The Brit police are angels compared to that lot. Count your blessings. |

Most do, but their hands are tied behind their backs thanks to this Government with their targets and all the unnecessary paperwork |

They would do an even better job if the government stopped sticking their oar in every 5 minutes. Let them get on with the job they are paid to do and ignore all the moaning lefties and liberals. |

I lived in Edinburgh , Scotland for 9 years, in the few times I had interaction with the police there (usually drunk and disorderly, hehe well it is Scotland). they were very fair and professional. The police over there are some of the bravest I have ever seen they walk into all the same situations all other police departments do but without a gun, and with out the shoot first and ask questions never policies of the American police. If a situation degenerates to where guns are needed they call out the armed response unit, and well if someone is that in trenched in there criminal behaviour they deserve whats coming.
With the exception of needing a missing child alert system like north America's amber alert system. I think the UK police are very good. |

I don't think the Police always do their jobs properly. I don't always do mine properly. I don't know anyone who always 100 % of the time does their job properly and like any large group of people some of them will be more dedicated or with more integrity than others and some that probably shouldn't be there at all and after a while probably won't be.
To be like the USA Police they would have to drop the entry requirement standards to get the volume of Police Officers the USA has in order to send 20 cars to chase one suspect and to have cops everywhere. Then we would have some real thickos and rednecks running around in uniform. Just like in the USA.
UK Officers are healthier for society in my opinion. |

Well, it isn't the golden age of policing as it was in the 60s (think Nick Berry in Heartbeat) but then I suppose society isn't the same as then. Do you think a whistle would work nowadays? Or children do what adults tell them? I think the police in those days were more like the community officers are now, in being part of the community to help it, than being separate and being seen as bullies to average people. I suppose they have to put up with a lot of abuse and I wouldn't be able to do it as it must be a difficult job.
Just my opinion.
I haven't had much experience of them really. Once when I was a young and stupid 14 year old and shoplifting with a friend and the police were really nice. We were terrified of being arrested and crying that that. I didn't do it again, that's for sure. Not sure about my friend as my parents thought she was a bad influence and wouldn't let me talk to her again. A few times in my car when I thought they were patronising, and once when my friend phoned me as was having a nervous breakdown because she thought the father of her daughter was a paedophile and the policeman who first arrived to take statements was really nice and helpful. They didn't take long to arrive. |

Not getting the full story here are we.
Your sweeping statement about hating the police is immature, as I suspect you are. Its like saying "the sales assistant at PC world was rubbish" and calling all sales assistants.
Why dont you edit your post, remove the childish language, and put what you do(or dont) for a living so we can make generalisations about you! |

Seems to me that they are more keen to collect revenue from motorists. We need more community coppers like back in the day, where you knew em. And if you stepped over the mark you didn't get busted first time. Rather than now where you get busted for stupid stuff, while somebody down the road is being knifed. I suppose to be fair, not many young people have any respect for them either. |

I think they should revert back to how they used to be in the 70's, like Gene Hunt in life on mars. |

i think its time that each area got together and hired their own private protection, and what ever money it costs each individual should be deducted from the local council tax. because frankly!! the police are less than hopeless. in fact i go further. they are a public liability, and a bloody nuisence. all they are fit for is harrassing motorists. any thing els and you can forget it. so why the hell we pay for the idiots is beyond me??? |
