Absolutely, there are many firearms awash in this country and the world. The police need equal footing when it comes to a shoot out and need a firearm to serve and protect.

The police in England to not carry guns and their violent crime rate is up... i don't know if there is a correlation, but i wouldn't want to be a cop without a gun when all the criminals are running around armed...

Yes, of course the police need to be able to protect themselves. Well all free people should be allowed to protect themselves, so to further answer your question police should carry guns, so should doctors, postmen, grocery clerks, and anyone else who is willing to get trained.

Yep, and nightsticks, and mace. Police officers put themselves in dangerous situations and should be able to defend themselves. Of course, they should use them sparingly.

Yes! If I was being violated in any way by a criminal I would want a police officer equipped to assist me with other than pointing his finger at a bad guy and commanding them to stop what they are doing!

They should definately carry guns.. if we took them away, criminals would know that there were limits to what the cops can do, and alot more people would get hurt.
I think it's already bad enough that people are trying to take away the right to chase them.... now they think if they run fast, a cop won't be allowed to chase.... again, too easy to get away.
I think cops should be allowed to put a cap in the knee of ANY one running from a cop.

I actually wish police officers and related jobs would be the only ones that were allowed to have guns.
With that said I am sure people will wonder about deer hunting season. And their right but, too many guns get in too many wrong hands.

Of course the police should carry guns. However,, they should be banned from carrying bullets, as they obviously cannot be trusted
