Do you think this country is too soft on crime? Are prisons too much like camps and should the death penalty?

Prison should be punishment for a crime and therefore should be regarded as such, basic amenities, 3 basic meals a day, a bed to sleep in a and a bathroom to crap in, nothing else, all the luxuries should be banned and sentences made to fit the crime, if you kill someone, no matter how it occurs then you should expect to go to jail for the rest of your life, not 7 years if you're (un)lucky, this country has gone to the dogs and panders to the criminals.

it is too nice in prison..it shoudl be tougher and yes the death penalty need sot be used thats the problem..no use in haveing somethign you do not use

I think this country is waay too soft dude,some prisons are just like hotels and dont serve as a form of punishment.They should get the cons to do free menial work or hard labour like in the states and fix the damn roads so we dont have to wait for the stoopid roadwork guys taking all year to fix a busted cats eye.Get these cons to pay back their debt by sweat and toil,damned if Im paying tax to look after em.

Of course they are. Especially for somebody who has committed the most heinous of crimes, such as Huntley. The death penalty is probably an easy way out for scum like him. I'd be happier to see him in a bare, concrete cell. The floor would be his bed. Every night, just before lights out, someone should pour a bucket of cold water on the floor. Make his wretched existence intolerable. THAT would be punishment and a deterrent.
It might seem draconian but the liberals and bleeding hearts have had it their way for far too long now and look where it has got us. We have all been used as a social experiment that has had disastrous consequences. Enough is enough.

Too soft? In some cases (such as child molester punishments) but I also think a lot of it is just plain done wrong. There should be prisons for violent criminals, and prisons for non-violent criminals. By putting fraudulent check writers in cells with rapists and murderers...all you're doing is creating more violent criminals. A non-violent criminal will become violent in the name of self preservation.

Also, NOW....who you are often dictates where you go. If you're a politician or executive with money, you go to Country Club prison. That's crap. Bring back chain gangs for non-violent criminals. THEY can work the fields and we wouldn't be so (supposedly) dependant on illegal aliens.

Caning? No. I say that because too many teachers would go overboard, which is why it was stopped in the first place. I know I'd have a major issue if some teacher caned MY kid. I'm not saying they shouldn't have access to real disciplinary measures. Make my kid paint the bleachers. Make my kid scrape gum off the cafeteria tables. That's fine...but the first bleeding welt I find on my kid from a teacher...and that school wouldn't know what hit 'em. Teachers ARE public servants. If the mail carrier hit my kid, there would be a throw-down in my front yard. I DO however, agree that teachers have their hands tied. They need more freedom to discipline...just not physically.

i do agree with u in a lot of ways but not with the death penalty coz what if they charged the wrong person and they got hanged it wouldent be fair would it

discipline has become a danger zone. they say charity begins at home. so does crime.

sure children used to be seen and not heard. that was an erroneous condition and rather extreme. so now we're headed for the opposite extreme where offenders are wholeheartedly condoned.

I agree with you, the teachers were respected and we were taught wrong from right, these days there is no punishment most young offenders meet a lot of other offenders and are taught more cons than they knew going in , they come out miss thier mates offend just to go back to prison known to them as holiday camps

I am a correctional officer and I agree that prisons in a lot of cases are too soft and that some inmates do come back because they really do have it made in prison. As for the caning, it has its pros and cons. There are some teachers I've met need the caning themselves. We have moral decay in our country but we can't do anything about it because of the liberal people making our laws. I say not only bring back public hangings but also bring back prayer in our classrooms.

Yes i agree ,there are no serious deterrents,and as for the poor teacher what chance has he got,i was educated at a time when the cane was still in use,and although it did not stop all misbehaviour,it certainly kept it to a minimum,the little hard cases were always made to look small,when they were caned in front of the class,and believe me it had more effect than an asbo.

I dont agree, i believe that prisons are over flowing not because people want to go back, but because there is so much in justice in our court system. A rapist can get locked up for a few years, when someone growing pot can get locked up for a lifetime. I think we need to lock up the actual offenders for longer and ease up on drug users prsotutes. Lock the people who are really hurting other people up.

Prisons are entirely too comfortable. People are getting master's degrees in prison while the families of their victims' lives are ruined forever. This is how prisons should be run: 1. ABSOLUTELY NO PAROLE. IF THE JUDGE GIVES YOU 50 YEARS, YOU DO IT DAY FOR DAY. 2. Two meals a day and all food must be grown, all animals raised by prisoners themselves. They should have to churn their own butter and milk their own cows. 3. No television, radio, or internet. 4. All prisoners should have to get a full body scan like at the airport so they can't smuggle anything in. 5. Prisoners should work 9 hours a day, 6 days a week. They should not get paid a single dime and any proceeds from their labor should go to pay for their heat and electricity. 6. Prisoners should be issued two pairs of pants, 2 shirts and a sweatshirt and 1 pair of shoes per year. None of this business about people from home sending designer clothes. 7. No juice or soda. Milk or water only. If they can't drink milk, give them plenty of water! I'm sick of hearing about these worthless criminals sitting in their cells eating chips and candy bars and getting fat.
