Do you trust Police in General?

(Note: I'm a conservative Republican, a Ronald Reagan Republican). I do (as most Americans) hate big brother in our lives. I own my own home, have 3 children age 24, 22 & 13, two in college. My wife is a school teacher and I work in advertising field...we are a conservative family who attends church and believe's in Jesus.

I don't hate Police in general, I do believe they do what they are told to do by boss's. I believe the motives especially in the ticket industry is financially driven. I don't blame the officers who are just doing their jobs and are trying to make a living just like the rest of us and have problems, pressures etc. I can't help but want to believe they would rather be caughting crooks who steal, abuse and committ violaent crimes against their fellow man. The law enforment focus in my area is more in the minor violation+ticket=cash. Crimes such as cars parked in wrong direction on street, grass growing over an inch longer than allowed, dogs tags 10 seconds expired

and on & one. I remember a time that I loved to see an officer drive down our street....for the past 10 years I get a chill up my spine...wondering if I'm going to be next with some petty fine. I hate the way I feel but it's very true

No I don't trust them in general.
I remember not thinking twice about going up to a cop and asking for directions.

Now, I wouldn't approach a cop. They're so arrogant and full of self importance. They'd probably taser you for daring to get in their space. And then say they "feared for their life" since it's their number one excuse for everything they do.

You got to listen to this one.
If a police officer ask for your driving license, give it. if that ask for your registration, give it but when they ask for proof of auto insurance, he should wear a swastika on his forehead.
Why, he is enforcing a fascist law.
while we have laws like auto insurance, no smoking, child support. is disrespect the law enforcement.
the mother of one of my child family has 3 police officers and 2 detective. My first grad buddy brother in law is a DEA agent, got shot 9 times and is in Iraq training their enforcement. I got a close friend herein town that is a local police, and a great friend who is a latent on the Highway patrol. I pray for these Honorable people like I pray for the our military.
A police car will have this'To protect and to serve' which USE to mean, to protect the people and serve the communaty. Now it means to protect fascism and to serve the legislators
but the sadiest thing I have to tech my children is 'If you don't know the cop, Don't trust them'.

So many corrupt cops get all the news coverage.......i too used to look up to officers when i was younger but seeing more bad than good has had a negative impact on me...i have had my runins with them and have never heard them say the could have been mistaken....once you are arrested then you no longer have any rights at all....the police are right and thats the end of it

I live in Germany and I guess the German police officers are the most harmless in the world lol I remind me at summer 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany...Germany had won the penalty shootout agains Argentinia and the whole Federal Republic of Germany was a big party...the peoples was jumping over the street and no officer had done anything...that was LIBERAL

I don't trust the government nor its lackeys and enforcers.

The unfortunate truth in this world has become that everything our country has set up for our protection in the past has completely turned around on us. Policeman in most towns are a prime exmaple of how a good entity at one time can then turn around and become corrupt after time. The only logical solution would be to reward the working officers more then the big bosses who sit in their offices getting rich off the working man I think however that we all know this will never happen anytime soon. I would not trust policeman.

I Trust most all Lawenforcement but like anywhere there are bad apples everywhere. even in church you still have people that will steal right outa the offering plate... but 99.9% of law enforcement is trustworthey to the publica nd deserve the respect. The officxers dont get anymore money in there pay check fromn giving you or anyone else a ticket so its not driven by finances... That ticket money goes back into the governments general revenue and dispensed in many forms of government programs and expenses and are not paid back to officers as bonuses or anything like that to anyone.. if they dont hand out any tickets they will still get paid and not feel any difference its all just apart of the job...and what a double standard..all crimes need to be enforced equally not just the big crimes but the smalls one too.. and its just that more people are breaking the smaller laws more often that why lawenforcement are so tied up with the littile crimes and they have less peole murdering than they do speeding so it all balences it self out they spen the same amount of time on all kinda of law.. But if you dont understand that I guess that why you arnt in te Criminal Justice Profession caus eit takes a certain mentality to understand the big picture.. you just see police on te surface but uyou arent thinking about what happens behing the cover where you cant see.. the uniformend officer is what your used to seeing writing tickets and stuff and they are not the only officers they are different divisions in criminal justice each with a specific criminal function and focus on certain laws or a certain group and different department that focus on certain crimes uniformed officers and UN-UNIFORMED OFFICERS

Yes and no....the old timers still have the common sence...I have seen it go from commmunity oriented to just go out and get who you can for what ever...to me it seems they arrest and book peole for petty non violent cite and release ites just to be able to get their arrest stats up so they can justify needing more cops because the arrest statistics are high.
It seems they are too trigger happy these days..and the excuse..I was fearful....well of course if your going to stand in front of a car.
My dad was a cop for 35 yrs and not once did he fire his weapon because he was fearful....he used common sence to avoid any situation that put him direct danger and to avoid shooting anyone.

Do i trust the coppers?
As a "whole",
NO,
as an individual person,
YES,
because each copper is different.
Except some of the coppers on here, make you want to put em all together in one batch!
If they say,
"we are the good guys or hey I'm a nice guy, trust me."
BEWARE,
those are the coppers you got to look out for,
for they never see themselves
or their own(coppers) doing wrong.

Jacky
Yeah..
but as a girl I've always been warned to never pull over on the side of the road at night when being pulled over..
ONLY pull over in areas where someone can help you (gas station, etc.)
Too many girls are getting raped by police men (or men impersonating police men)

psdiver
Absolutely, 100%, can't be a better group of folks, nice friendly folk, helpful in every way possible. Kind caring individuals.
Can you tell I'm an Officer???

Yes, I trust them in general. I have had mostly positive encounters with them, even when getting a well-deserved ticket... occasionally, I've gotten a ticket from a surly officer, but I still deserved the ticket and I've had my surly days, too.

Once, the police department lost my ticket payment info and then sent a warrant out for my arrest... it was their mistake and a scary hassle, as it was a weekend and I feared getting arrested before I could take my little green (return receipt requested) card to the pd to show them that not only had I paid the ticket, but I had received a signed card back saying they had received it. Whew! That was a burden. But it was one incident and certainly not representative of a whole department. Anyways, I'm THAT disorganized ALL the time and frequently lose important stuff... so I certainly won't be casting judgments there...

We have the grass law here, too. I have yet to be fined... I can mow my grass only when I borrow a lawn mower or can afford to pay someone else to do it. Most of the folks in my neighborhood have small and imperfect lawns with grass growing a few inches above what's allowed. I guess Big Brother has overlooked us thus far. I've parked my car in the wrong direction at my house and my friend's house (and my friend has a cop for a neighbor), yet I have not been fined for this either.

I also vote mostly Republican, voted for and liked Reagan, am in my late 40's, and am deeply in love with my Lord and Savior, Jesus. I used to be a school teacher, but am in another line of work, now... making far, far less money, but enjoying the company-paid travel and physical labor (makes me lose weight and gets those endorphins going!). Not sure what one thing has to do with the other... but, my relationship with Jesus frees me from worrying about who might be watching me... as well, I couldn't care less who might be watching me, since I don't have anything really to hide... ok, except when I'm taking a shower... yeah, NOBODY better be watching then...

Sure, there's bad police out there.. there's bad people everywhere... it's a mean world we live in... but to answer your question... Yes. I generally DO trust the police.

billh
yes, in general I do trust them.when you consider the job they are asked to do, the scrutiny and second guessing they have to deal with and the overall ineptitude/ignorance of the general public. Its funny how I am polite and respectful and I have never been hassled or arrested before, but my sister who has an attitude problem and no respect for the police managed to get herself in trouble on a semiregular basis.

example from 2-3 yrs ago. I was going skiing, we left about 5:00 AM. It was cold and a turbocharged/intercooled engine loves to make power at that temp. 5:00 AM and almost nobody is on the road. I crested a small hill/turn at about 50, dropped down to 4th gear and paid in a bit of throttle. As I was accelerating through60MPH I saw a car on the side of the road with steam coming out of the tailpipe. I saw the white flash of his backup lights as he went from park to drive and began to accelerate. after less than 1 tenth of a mile I was pulled over and had my lic/reg in my hand. do you know how fast you were going? yup, she was just coming on boost and I was transitioning 60mph figuring to lift at 70. this car just loves cold air and open roads. Chuckles for both of us but no tickets and I slowed my pace for the rest of the trip. I think if I would have asked him when the last test was on his radar gun I would have invited trouble where it didn't need to be.

I trust the police over all. I really do. Granted some may have a little more time on their hands than others and get sidetracked as to the purpose and significance of those details you mentioned. Of course like in any profession, there can be some bad eggs out there too.

Oh, but don't get me started about what the motives might be behind all those cameras placed at traffic lights! That's another story entirely!! LOL!

Peace.

The police department is somewhat becoming a business now.As a child police officers were known as trusted individuals and everyone knew all the officers and they never, ever gave tickets for mediocre things.Now-a-days the same could some be said except the ticket part because towns have expanded their police rulebook to get more revenue from tickets.I still do like the police and I do have great respect for them keeping us safe but sometimes I think this it goes a little to far.

Also,I may add I'm a conservative Republican also
