I live in Indiana. A friend of mine is a brother to a state trooper. He tells me that this is true. they have a quota.
Some cops like to get the quota as early into the month that they can while others, maybe more considerate, will wait till the last few days if possible, choosing to give tickets only when it is an obvious endangerment, or total disregard for the law. As an example he says that his brother allows 7 mph over the limit nearly always, untill it gets to crunch time, the end of the month, then he would not hesitate going after 'slower' speeders, lol.
So if you are traveling, be aware at the first part of the month and at the end of the month... |

No, that would be considered a quota, which is illegal.
No matter how many tickets we write, none of that money ever comes back to us personally. The only money that does come back to the department goes toward outfitting the cars etc. |

No quotas if I had a dollar every time I was asked that, when I was writing a ticket I would be rich. |

No they doesn't. |

Not officially. They're not allowed to have quotas. But you better believe they are "expected" to perform at a certain level. And no one's gonna complain if they give out a lot. |

No, there are no quotas. In my dept the only thing that tickets do is show you are working when there are no calls to be handled, but every stop has to be entered into our racial profiling systen, so it has better accuracy since it's measuring all the actual stops made. |

yes and no. I work for phoenix pd depending on your sgt. (boss) he or she will tell you what they expect out of your shift. I had some who wanted 6 citations a shift while others just wanted at least 10 contacts (meaning i could write a citations or written warnings). For a 10 hour shift these are low minimums. Even on the slowest day you would make these numbers but on the off change that nobody was out on the streets you would never hassle someone into a citation that did not deserve one. |

yes it is. they have to write tickets. it shows they are patrolling their beat. there is always someone speeding in a school zone. now i hate those kind of people. |

Not officially. Quotas are illegal.
but depending on your agency, if you don't write enough tickets it looks bad for promotions and evaluations.
Want to see a cop lie in court? Ask him during your traffic court hearing if he or she is under any pressure at all to write traffic tickets. He or she will say no. He or she is lying. Cops are great liars. |

the more tickets you give out...it shows your doing your job and helps you to get promoted...nj state police i know they have to have a certain amount or else it shows slacking performance |

I don't think it's weekly, but rather monthly. I've asked cops that I know if they have ticket quotas, and while some have said they exist, others deny it. I do know some beat cops that have to answer/investigate a certain number of 911 calls or crimes per month.
Online research shows that internal memos and e-mails from police departments are proof that these quotas do exist. |
