Does a cop have to tell you they are a cop if you ask via email?

Just a simple question... if you ask someone if they are cop through email, do they have to say yes they are if they are? No exeptions?

It is perfectly legal for him to deny being an officer. An officer never has to identify himself unless he is taking some type of official action against you. It is perfectly legal for him to deny being an officer.

They don't have to say anything. Why would you need to know? You can't even know who they are. Who would punish them for lying, their ISP?
