Does anyone appreciate law enforcement?

It is a difficult job to be appreciated in. We (the community) get mad at them for doing their job "I was only doing 45 in a 30" Then we are mad at them because crime happens "Where were you guys at when my house got broke into". It also does not help that there is a small minority of people (like any other job) who are not suited for the profession. Those people make the rest of law enforcement look bad. Personally I appreciate the local law enforcement guys. They help suppress crime, keep speeding down and generally are pillars of the community. They sure as heck do not do it to get rich. They do it because they are trying to make a difference or they give a darn about their community so thanks guys and gals for putting on that uniform and doing your job.

I appreciate law enforcement. These men & women literally risk their lives daily just so you and I can live as if all is well.
They're wonderful and deserve cooperation and more respect than we can give.

I very much do so. The cases you hear about law enforcement personnel being 'bashed' is just because those people are the loud people. Now certain officers may be corrupt, but that doesn't make them all bad. Think about what would happen if law enforcement disappeard, including National Gaurd troops.

Actually, anyone with a loaded weapon gets my respect. And anyone that doesn't respect a loaded weapon is just asking for a Darwin award.

My beef is with some of those darned laws that they have to enforce.

I appreciate what they do, and even though i dont support the war in iraq, i think the soldiers are very brave and i support them (so i hate the war, but i'd gladly pay higher taxes if it meant better armor and equipment for the men and women over there).
People are afraid of the police because they have alot of power. but that doesnt mean you should hate them! hate the individual. if you're wronged by a person, fine. but don't blame everyone for it.
those cop killing games should be illegal. its hard enough for law enforcement without people practicing.

I teach my children to always be respectful of the police, but to never give permission to them to search them or their cars/homes/belongings. I teach them to follow all lawful/moral orders, but not be afraid to stand up/fight back against unlawful/immoral orders.

I also taught them the most important thing you can EVER say to a police officer. "I am invoking my fifth amendment right to remain silent, and will not be answering any questions outside the presence of my attorney."

My job is to arrest people I have probable cause to believe committed a crime, and to find any and all evidence tying them to that crime. My job is NOT to prove people innocent. I turn all evidence over to the prosecutor, whether it supports my case or hurts it, and without regard for my personal beliefs pertaining to a person's guilt or innocence.

In short, I want to get you convicted of crimes. Why would you want to help me?

As for people hating the police? Why would a 15 year old like police when we arrested his brother for dealing, his dad for robbery, and his uncle for possession? People aren't teaching children to take responsibility for their actions. When uncle gets locked up, instead of saying "uncle did a bad thing", they say "the police took him away".

It seems to me that people just frown upon law enforcement because a very small percentage abuse their privalages and powers, and in the "good" public's eyes we're power abusers.

In the "bad" public's eyes, we stop their parties, arrest them for making a living illegitimately, and basically make life rough for them, since they only care about themselves. But when it comes to them being in trouble, they expect us to help.

Personally I think we are appreciated by most folks in society. However the folks who appreciate the police are generally more reserved and classy than the folks who don't like us. Thus you hear about the criminal scumbag or the malcontent hating the cop because they will post it all over the internet or complain to the media...you don't see the hundreds of letters received by regular police officers from citizens thanking them. You don't see the folks coming to the station to thank you or stop us in the street to say hi. I work in one of the biggest cities in my state, sadly high crime, but still see way more people who appreciate us than don't.

As for people like Adam B; I somehow doubt that he has met, or deal with in any form a fraction of the police officers in his city or county, let alone this country. But I bet he's watched lots of movies and formed an opinion...something terribly tragic (or maybe just pathetic) about that....

You also have to realize that many people are unable to think in a coherent manner. Thus its not their fault they got a DUI, its the A-hole cop's fault..."why couldn't the cop be "nice" and let me go?" etc etc

And Jess, let me get this right, your "little cuzz" admitts to you he was busted having crack and a pipe in his shoe, but doesn't smoke crack...yeah right...And he gets charged for the crack, but the dirty corrupt cops steal his measley pipe. You are "cracking" me up. After you've served some decent time in DOC you'll be able to develop more believable police corruption stories.

I have a lot of respect for those who work in law enforcement, they put their lives on the line everyday. The world would be a much worse place to be than it already is if it wasn't for these people.

I certainly do, however there are those who abuse their power and think they can do anything and get away with it.....those types I do not appreciate.

There is a big group of armed and violent thugs running around with the full authority of the law behind them. They abuse innocent citizens, they murder people without ever being punished, and they take the stand in court cases and lie under oath. This is the face of policing in America today. If the police want respect they should stop protecting dirty cops, and they should stop walking around with fake military uniforms and mirrored shades.

When I was a little kid, my parents taught me that police were nice people who wanted to help me. Actually dealing with police officers made me realize that this is a lie.

I'll probably take a few hits on this but what the heck. I don't think it's that they aren't appreciated. They do a job that many others wouldn't do for any amount of money. Perhaps it has to do with the attitude that many officers give off when dealing with the public. It's one thing to do your job, and another to treat people as if they are your wayward child, in need of your guidance and personal reprimand. Issue the ticket, make the arrest, but save the lecture. Just my humble opine on the subject.

my little cuz got arrested and the police said they found an ounce of crack on him and he was smoking it behind the building. i know my cuz doesent smoke so when i bonded him out we had a serious talk and he says the police found it in his shoe along with a crack pipe which mysteriously didnt show up to the evidance room and the day i bonded him i took him to a medical testing lab for a drug screen a hair folicle test which is very accurat and cost me 400$ and the results were clean. so that is why i dont respect athority in my city. these thing happen hear almost every day. also last year southern queens NYC where i live, busted 65 cops with dealing methamphetamines and charged79 more for conspiracy. the ones with conspiracy got to stay on the force.

as for mr."officer" below me. the pipe was not takin there was no pipe at all thats just what the "police" had wrote down on there paper. there was no crack no pipe the dope never showed up and could not be used as evidance and the case was droped. my cuz is 13 and very close to me and i know he does not smoke crack. i dont know where the hell DOC is or what it is but i live in newyork and i know its alot bigger and very different from where you are are the jails are too. and i never said he addmited to it. we fought this case and won. after the case we talked to a deputy or whatever the highest rank at the station is and apperently the police never got in any kind of trouble at all. is this kinda fishy or what?

I for one absolutely hate and I mean hate law enforcement!! Lost everything to many times over nothing because of them assholes!!!! They can go fuck themselves with there power trip!!!! Go ruin someone elses life you fucking dicks!!!!
