Does anyone disagree with JOE HORN from Pasadena, TX for the burglars that he killed?

I commend Joe Horn for shooting the burglars. This is what neighbors should be doing for each other. I would be honored to have Joe Horn to be my neighbor. Especially, today when our neighbors don't even take the time to talk or get to know their neighbors anymore.

From a legal standpoint, he is going to have a tough time arguing his case. Anytime you initiate contact, you are going to have a hard time claiming self defense. Especially when you leave your house to do it.

I doubt this had anything to do with race, it was pretty clear to me his main objective was to protect his neighbor's house.

Personally, he did the right thing.

Professionally, he did the dumb thing. It could have turned out very bad for him.

TX has some very broad laws when it comes to using force against another in defense of self of property. He could get off criminally.

he was on the phone with 911 and they were sending the police. they were stealing, not raping or robbing. they did not shoot at him or brandish a weapon.

if he felt an honest need to detain them, he should not have shot to kill. he could have run after them, or he could have shot at their legs.

but he should have just stayed on the phone with the police and continued to provide information.

he was completely and totally in the wrong, and he maliciously shot and killed those men. and he should go to jail.

oh, and he violated texas law. if they had been in his house when he shot them, he would not have been in violation of the law. but in this case, it seems he went out of his way to harm these people.

and by the way, I am a texan, born and raised, and i know how to shoot a gun.

texas law gives one the right to use deadly force for the protection of their home or property.he was well within the law.for the dufus below who said i do not know about the case. if he were able to read he will be able to where i stated that it was texas law.from the way he talked there is no way he is really a cop.that was the law and still is the law.that same person has the right to use deadly force in the protection of a third party.

he was correct,legally and morally...Texas has a "shoot the trespasser" law that allows shooting of someone on your property...they came into his yard...besides,its people looking the other way that got us to this point in the first place...thugs doing what they want,anytime they want

I have a lot of questions, but it all comes down to this:

1. The individuals killed would not have been killed if they had not been committing a crime.

2. Mr. Horn was told by the 911 dispatcher NOT to confront the individuals.

3. None of this would be an issue if people were doing what they were supposed to be doing instead of trying to satisfy some selfish need (yes - Mr. Horn was even being selfish - he wanted to be a "hero" by stopping a couple of burglars).

It is all a shame. But I also thing there are individuals that will turn anything into a race issue these days, and I take that with a grain of salt. But there are questions, and I think they will eventually be answered.

if he is indited he will be no billed. Texas has really liberal gun laws. and fleeing is considered during the commission of the crime, so he doesn't have to be in your house.

See, around here, you can't kill folks just for stealing (except for an old law that says you can hang a man for stealing your horse). You just can't do it. Just because you are holding a gun to them and telling them not to move or you will shoot does not mean that you can ACTUALLY shoot them, for any reason.

Around here, and I live in Houston, you also can't shoot people outside. If you want to claim self defense, first you gotta get them inside, then you really should make them back up on the linoleum (I've learned from experience they don't clean it up for you). Otherwise, yer goin' to jail hon :)

He was 100% wrong in confronting and shooting those men. He was told not to go outside and had no reason to go outside.

FYI...the 'retired Sheriff' who replied above must not be familiar with this case at all as what he stated has nothing to do with this case.

Listen to the 911 tape, he told them not to move and they entered Mr. Horn's yard and went towards him.

So, Lisbeth, are you saying that if you try to stop a crime in Texas the criminals can LEGALLY attack you as long as you are not in your house?
