i had read that virginia was going nonsmoking, but had completely forgot about it until we went to outback one night and sat at the bar and the woman was like "remember we're nonsmoking now". guess we hadnt gone out in a while! then my fiance told me that it happened at like the beginning of march and everything was nonsmoking now.
then last week we went to longhorn steak house in chantilly and they still had a smoking section. it wasnt completely separated from the rest of the restaurant, there are just some glass panels making it about 75% separate.
so now i'm wondering what the actual rules are and what restaurants you know of that still have smoking.
i dont even smoke, but my fiance does, so i'm just curious.

Does the ban prohibit smoking in restaurants operated in private clubs?
No. Private clubs, such as local VFWs and lodges, are exempt.

To the best of my knowledge the ban doesn't go into affect until Dec. 1, 2009. Smoking at bar's & restaurants will be banned unless there is a walled-off area of the restaurant designated for smoking and served by a ventilation system which is separate from the one that serves nonsmoking parts of the establishment (and given the added expense I imagine most restaurants won't bother). The only exemption to the smoking ban is Private Clubs / establishments, such as the VFW. |

It's been that way in my state for about 3 years now or longer, haven't went out to eat since then. Hope it helped their businesses and tax revenues by driving out the smoking crowd of people. |
