Does anyone know what cars undercover agents use. i heard something about 300m tinted windows.?

We use Crown Vics, Impalas, Intrepids (hate them), 2 Tahoes, one Excursion, an Expedition and one of those sweet new Explorers. The Excursion is heavily tinted, the rest are medium to no tint. Then of course there are the "rent-a-wrecks" for uc work.

No one parks a tinted out excursion down in the bad lands to do surveillance. Not unless you want to have to keep somebody from trying to boost it every 10 minutes. Now driving it down through the area? We've never tested it but reliable sources say water usage increases tremendously as it drives by....from all the flushing ;-)

All departments buy all their undercover cars from the same place, and all are equiped exactly the same way, but it is a secret. Truth is, most departments get their undercover cars via forfeiture.

There is nothing special about undercover cars. My old department used impounded vehicles for undercover / surveillance work. 0nce, during my short detective career, I had to pull a surveillance shift on a suspect drug dealer. I was issued a 15 year old Pontiac station wagon that had been impounded a week prior. A damn cat had died in the stupid thing, which, of course, the impound lot did not bother to clean out. Pretty wretched shift. . ., couldn't get that dead cat smell off me for a week.

"Undercover Agents" use cars that look like everyone else's cars. A beat up 1991 Honda would be a perfect undecover car.

Whenever possible, we use whatever vehicles that will blend in with the community we are working in. We take out anything from old clunkers that look like they will barely make it down the block to brand new Escalades with spinners and whatnot.

I worked a street racing detail one night and was given a suped up import with a real nox tank--that was cool.

Last week I used a 92 Chevy Savannah with ladders on top and and a fine sound system. No tint.

Oh. I usually remove my front bridgework. I played rugby until I was 50.

Tint is usually not a factor with street level "researchers" that I know. The poser that gives me my checks and my 1099s has heavy tint on his Tahoe.

Its always different. I have seen Mustangs, Chargers, even those "tuner" cars that are unmarked. Around here the pull up to a spot light challenge you to race (by motor sounds) and once you drive off like your a B.A. they pull you over! True story... so you know never man you never know!

Ever think that's why they're "under cover"? Most "under cover" agents drive regular style vehicles with regular state issued license plates. You can't tell them apart from the vehicle sitting next to you in traffic. Or in front of you. Or even behind you

It depends on what city or county you live in. Larger cities will have newer unmarked cars then smaller cities.

I had occasion to witness an extreme drug bust a few months back in Michigan. I was driving on a main road after work when this car came flying off another road in front of me. Next thing I knew, a State Police car was ramming it off the road. I stopped maybe 10ft from this. Then out of nowhere 5 other vehicles pulled up from all different directions. I would have never known they were agents if I didn't see this happen 10 ft in front of me. All of them had guns drawn and were screaming at this guy to get out of the car, get on the ground! I can't remember the exact makes and models, but one was a Saturn, one was an Intrepid, and one was some sort of SUV, I think a blazer. No tinted windows. It was the craziest thing I have ever seen and I wish I had a video camera.

EDIT* Oh yeah, and it was confirmed that I had just witnessed what I thought by a cop I have known for years that works in that jurisdiction.

If you only knew

Every jurisdiction is different based on their budget. Usually Chevrolet or Ford.

cia use cars that are normal looking and geenrally they are blue or whatever but t hey are moderate looking and nothig great about them they generally wear a suit and look nice but you woldn't know it unless you knew them.

all different kinds. sometimes they even use comfiscated vehicles.

they use Mercedes, and don't look at all the movies with the flashy cars, they only use mercedes. I can not tell you how i know this
