And if so, why are they legal in non-commercial vehicles in all states expect Virginia and D.C?

Maybe. I think the term 'intent to break the law' is a pretty harsh term when applied to a fairly minor violation such as speeding. Until they become illegal, it's everyone's choice whether to have one or not and that's just fine by me. If the officer operating the radar unit is skilled, it doesn't matter if you have a detector or not; we have your speed by the time it starts screeching. I can always tell when someone has a detector by the way the speed drops dramatically as soon as I get a reading on my unit. By the way, if I, or any other officer I know, stop you for speeding and you have a radar detector, you WILL get cited for speeding, whereas if you don't have one, you might get a break. Use that information as you will. |

I dont know about the US. But the uk, they can impound your car if they catch you with one.

Virginia and DC must just not like the idea of them. I like mine personally not just a reason to speed but more of a "heads up" system. |

Its all about the MONEY, you know commerical fines are higher than non-commerical fines. The tool you mention just
levels the playing field when the man is hiding on the road side or on a over pass. Doing his swarn duty to generate additional revenue for state and local agencies. Good luck

Good question. The answer is no. Merely knowing that you're being tracked by radar actually encourages safer driving. So, radar detectors used by people who speed serve to get them to stop speeding. |

I use mine just to avoid speed traps. They help to avoid stupid tickets you get when not paying attention. I am not using it to intentionally speed. I use my Batmobile for that. |

to the answer above me.,why do gas stations sell products geared for drug use,when drugs are illigal? i would say if you have and use a radar detector,then you are clearly a speeder and you enjoy doing so. |

NO.......now that's my opinion...Same reason that you can buy
rolling paper's in a 7-11...but if ya get to the car with them and
someone dropped a seed.....they become paraphernalia...

Only if you are in a state that doesn't allow them... then you are breaking the law by having it on. If you just have it in the car in the glove box you wont get in trouble as long as it isn't on. |
