The police are in a unique position as whatever happens to the rest of us the government will always ensure that their hired thugs are well provided for. What's more, the more despicable the actions of the government the bigger the rewards they will give to for these Stazi thugs to supress public outrage. I would like to see complete monitoring of the police action by an independent body so that they are held to account for their actions rather than given a free hand to cosh and brutalise innocent protesters. The police work for the government not for the people and as such they have no legitimacy at a protest.

Surely if this was not true then why worry?

I agree with you 100%. the labour party and its uniformed thugs seem to have forgotten who's country this is. But then most British people are servile gutless apologists who allow the government to get away with it, and actually call for the heads of the few that have the courage to fight? little wonder labour found it so easy to give Britain away to a Nazi stile EU federation with out an argument. little wonder they are allowed to wreck the country....the French say that if the government ordered the British to eat their own sh*t, they would do it without question......the people of this country have become a laughing stock through out the world.

I too believe that the police should have to answer to an independent citizen committee. What a joke when they get to investigate (read coverup) their own crimes and violations,.

The police are only doing their job and they didn't start the riots. If you're not where the trouble is then you can't get into trouble can you. The protesters didn't look all that innocent to me: criminal damage, assaults, threatening behaviour, carrying weapons. Do you ever see the police adopting aggressive tactics at peaceful rallies? No. What are they supposed to do, let rioters trash the place? Who will pick up the bill? You and I the taxpayer. The protesters are very lucky they were not in another country, they would have been beaten to a pulp. I don't disagree with your argument against the government, but don't blame the police. I'm sure you'll be very happy to see them next time you are the victim of a crime and will be bleating for them to take 'firm action'.

If the protesters cannot stop the minority of masked thugs hijacking their rallies, then the police must step in,
you know that trouble comes with the territory, so stop moaning and try to persuade a few hundred thousand people to join you 3 or 4 thousand didn't make much of an impact did it.
