And fire trucks and ambulances have the same tone sirens and flashing lights here as the coppers do.

We get out of their way as fast as we can, and out of the way of the fuzz when we can (hee hee)

No, because on the way you don't want to crash. Also you might want to scare someone away with the siren.

it is the law ... clears traffic so the person can be caught.
they also have to turn on their cameras every time they stop or turn on the sirens

In many situations, sirens are turned off before approaching the scene of the crime - they are used to annoy drivers on the way TO a crime :P

They are capable of being turned off but as a warning device when a quick trip is needed they are very good~~

No, in most cases they need to get through traffic quickly. People will take notice if a vehicle is behind them making lots of noise and flashing lights.

The sirens are used to protect both the police and citizens. Their purpose is to alert others in the area that they need to move over and make room for the emergency vehicle. If the element of surprise is an issue, then they use their sirens to get within a certain area of their destination, and turn off the sirens so that the suspect won't hear them. At least, that is my understanding of how the whole things works.

Sirens are primarily used to warn pedestrians of approachin police cars.
Sirens are used during police pursuits, not only responding to calls.
Most calls do not require stealth, just quick arrival.
They are used to alert the driver who NEVER looks in their rear view mirrors and who you have been following with your roof lights on for three minutes.

ok you shuld feel STUPID for asking the question! they are not just there for when they are catchin a suspect! they are there to warn people they are comming! to tell the people driving to move i mean that was just kind of a stupid question

it is done for the opposite reason, "To scare the criminal away" perhaps saving someones life.

I think that if they didn't people wouldn't know you were after someone and wouldn't move out of the way, and plus they would probably start panacking if they knew the plice were after them. Though i know what you mean lol

No this isn't stupid. They need the sirens especially is they pull over a car. How else would they be able to pull over a car?

The sirens are actually meant to warn others of clearing the way! but sometimes it acts like that double edged sword...the criminals are also warned in advance!

Police cars are there to scare people into behaving properly. Undercover cars are there for using the element of surprise.

Not really, if a police car were speeding to an emergency I'd prefer to know so I can get out of the way (and they can turn the sirens off if they need to and just use the lights on the roof (or they could even not use either if they don't need to disobey the road rules)).
